Description
Masamune Kadoya is a major character in the Beyblade Metal Saga, first appearing as the deuteragonist of Beyblade: Metal Masters and returning as a supporting character in Beyblade: Metal Fury. He was born in Japan but later moved to the United States to train and refine his skills as a blader. During the events of Metal Fury, he becomes a key ally in the search for the Legendary Bladers and the fight against the god of destruction, Nemesis.
Masamune is defined by his loud, energetic, and highly competitive personality. He is impulsive, often speaking before thinking, which lands him in trouble but also makes him memorable. He is extremely confident to the point of arrogance, frequently declaring himself the number one blader in the world. Despite his boastfulness, he possesses a genuine courage and an unwavering determination that pushes him to challenge stronger opponents repeatedly. He is also notably childlike and emotional, wearing his heart on his sleeve and reacting dramatically to both victories and defeats. His love for extremely spicy orange‑shaped snack sticks is a recurring quirk, as is his fascination with pandas.
His primary motivation is to become the world’s strongest blader. This goal drives him to seek out battles at every opportunity, constantly testing his limits. He wants recognition and validation for his skills, and he measures his progress by defeating top‑tier bladers. In Metal Fury, his motivation expands to include protecting the world from Nemesis, aligning his personal ambition with a larger cause.
In the story, Masamune begins as a persistent challenger to Gingka Hagane, following him around and demanding rematches. He eventually joins Team Gan Gan Galaxy for the World Championships, representing Japan alongside Gingka, Tsubasa Ootori, and Yu Tendo. In Metal Fury, his role shifts to a supporting one: he assists in gathering the Legendary Bladers and participates in key battles against the forces of Nemesis. His fighting spirit and relentless attack style make him a valuable member of the group, though he often struggles against opponents who rely on strategy or overwhelming power.
Masamune’s most important relationship is with Gingka. He views Gingka as both a rival and a friend, constantly pushing him to improve while also learning from Gingka’s example. They argue frequently over trivial matters, but their bond deepens through teamwork and mutual respect. He also forms close friendships with other team members, especially Yu Tendo, with whom he shares a playful dynamic. During his training in the United States, he develops a strong friendship with Toby, who becomes one of his most trusted companions. His relationship with Kyoya Tategami is more adversarial, as Kyoya’s intensity contrasts with Masamune’s showiness.
Over the course of the series, Masamune undergoes noticeable character development. Initially reckless and overconfident, he learns to cooperate with others and accept defeat gracefully. A key turning point occurs when he recognizes the limits of his raw aggression and begins to refine his technique. He also matures in his understanding of what it means to be a true blader, shifting from wanting to be number one for personal glory to fighting for a greater purpose. By the end of Metal Fury, he has become more humble and team‑oriented, though he never loses his core enthusiasm.
Masamune’s abilities center on his aggressive attack‑type Beyblades. In Metal Masters, he uses Ray Striker D125CS, a powerful attack Beyblade capable of delivering devastating single‑point strikes with its special move, Lightning Sword Flash. In Metal Fury, he upgrades to Blitz Striker 100RSF, an even faster and more powerful Beyblade that can switch between a barrage mode for rapid attacks and an attack mode for heavier, more focused blows. His signature special move remains a concentrated lightning strike that channels all his power into one decisive hit. His battling style relies on overwhelming speed and relentless pressure, often wearing down opponents before finishing them with a powerful finisher. While not as technically refined as some bladers, his sheer tenacity and refusal to give up make him a formidable opponent in any match.
