Description
Origami Tobiichi is one of the main female characters in the Date A Live series and appears in the film Date A Live: Mayuri Judgement. She is a classmate of Shido Itsuka, known throughout her school for her exceptional academic performance, athletic ability, and striking appearance. Beneath her student life, she serves as a Wizard, a combat specialist belonging to the Anti-Spirit Team, or AST, where she holds the rank of Master Sergeant. Her dedication to the AST is rooted in a traumatic childhood: she witnessed the deaths of her parents at the hands of a Spirit, and that loss drives her intense hatred of Spirits and her lifelong determination to eradicate them.

In appearance, Origami has short silver-white hair cut in a bob style, with three clips worn on the left side, and blue eyes. While at school she wears the standard female uniform, but on duty she dons a wired combat suit equipped with sensors and armor that leaves parts of her body exposed. Her general demeanor is quiet and reserved; she rarely speaks unless she considers it necessary, and she is better described as aloof and antisocial than shy. She tends to communicate in short, matter-of-fact statements and can act recklessly or aggressively when she has a goal in mind, especially in combat.

Her personality contains a notable contradiction. Despite her cold and serious outward manner, she harbors an intense and obsessive affection for Shido, frequently declaring herself to be his girlfriend and following him around in ways that border on stalking. This attachment is one of her defining traits, and her feelings for him often lead her to prioritize his safety over her orders and duties, even while she shows little regard for his own wishes in the matter. Her relationship with Tohka Yatogami is one of rivalry, and she often speaks of Tohka dismissively because of Tohka's closeness to Shido.

As a fighter, Origami is recognized as the ace of the AST and one of the most capable Wizards in the organization. She is one of the few people able to engage a Spirit in close combat, and she is uniquely suited to pilot the CR Unit White Licorice, a highly dangerous combat device that almost no one else can operate for practical use. Her skill in battle is considerable, and she complements her aggressive fighting style with a defensive field known as a Territory. At the same time, her emotions can get the better of her during encounters with Spirits, and her hatred sometimes pushes her toward extreme measures.

Over the course of the story, her past is explored in greater depth, revealing a tragic twist in which her own actions, tied to time travel, inadvertently contributed to the deaths of her parents. This revelation deepens her guilt even as it fuels her hatred of Spirits. In later arcs, she is transformed into a Spirit by the enigmatic figure known as Phantom, gaining the angel Metatron, which grants her numerous powerful long-range attacks that use beams of light. This transformation places her in a painful conflict, since she had spent her life vowing never to accept Spirits, and it reshapes her relationships with both her former comrades and the Spirits she once hunted. Her journey is therefore one of internal struggle, as she learns to confront her trauma, her sense of guilt, and the meaning of her identity in a world where the lines between enemy and self have become blurred.
