Description
Dist is the primary antagonist of the first Fairy Tail feature film. He is a tall, lean man with pale skin, sharp features, and long black hair, typically dressed in a dark, high-collared coat and gloves that reflect his role as a servant to Duke Cream. A skilled mage, Dist serves as the right-hand to the spoiled ruler of the country of Veronica and is a leading operative of the Carbuncle guild.

His personality is defined by a cold, calculating demeanor and a deep-seated arrogance. He views magic as a tool for power and shows little regard for his subordinates, treating them as expendable. His calm and controlled exterior hides a ruthless ambition that ultimately drives him to betray his own master.

Dist’s primary motivation is an intense, obsessive fear of death. This fear was born from a childhood incident in which his pet weasel died, and the young priestess Éclair told him that all living things must eventually perish. This trauma curdled into a phobia, transforming him into an immortality seeker determined to escape the natural cycle of life and death at any cost.

In the story, Dist is initially presented as the loyal enforcer carrying out Cream’s orders to find Éclair and unite the two halves of the mythical Phoenix Stone. He and his team attack the Fairy Tail guild hall, kidnapping Éclair and bringing her to Veronica. However, his role shifts dramatically during the climax. When Cream successfully summons the legendary Phoenix, expecting to receive its power, Dist abandons his master. He reveals his true colors by pushing the duke aside, intending to claim the beast’s immortality for himself.

His key relationships are defined by utility and disdain. He views Duke Cream as a mere stepping stone, a foolish noble whose resources he can exploit until the moment of ultimate betrayal. His relationship with Éclair, the Phoenix Priestess, is more historical, as her past words of wisdom inadvertently fueled his lifelong quest for eternal life. His primary conflict is with Natsu Dragneel, whom he fights atop the summoned Phoenix while attempting to extract its blood.

Dist does not undergo a redemption arc. His development is one of revelation rather than change, as his mask of loyal service is stripped away to reveal a purely selfish goal. His final defeat at the hands of Natsu comes when he is unable to fully comprehend the nature of the Phoenix’s power, as he mistakenly believes he can obtain immortality from its blood rather than from its tears.

His notable abilities center on the use of powerful Telekinesis. He can manipulate vast quantities of debris and stone, using them as projectiles or defensive barriers. He is able to lift and restrain opponents as strong as Natsu, hurling them through the air with little visible effort. This power allows him to repel incoming physical and magical attacks, making him a formidable combatant who relies on controlling the battlefield from a distance.
