Description
Laban is a high-ranking noble and military figure in the Kingdom of Midland who serves as a general during the Hundred-Year War. He is the leader of the Arklow Knights and holds a position of influence within the Midland court. Distinct from many aristocrats who resent or distrust Griffith because of his common birth, Laban evaluates Griffith purely on merit and holds a strong respect for his military capabilities. This pragmatic attitude leads him to support the Band of the Hawk's mission to capture the seemingly impenetrable Fortress of Doldrey when the King of Midland orders the assault. During the council scene where the king announces the plan, Laban expresses surprise at the decision, but he quickly reframes the discussion in terms of strategic morale, noting that the failure of a single maneuver will not damage the overall spirit of the army. His role in the story is primarily that of a supportive, politically moderate general who provides context for the midland nobility's reaction to Griffith's rising star. He appears alongside other court officials such as Owen, another general who shares his favorable view of Griffith. Laban does not undergo significant character development within the scope of the Golden Age Arc film, as his appearances are limited to these court and campaign planning scenes. He has no notable combat abilities shown on screen, and his importance lies in his political and military endorsement of Griffith, which helps legitimize the Band of the Hawk's operations in the eyes of the Midland establishment.
