Description
Doji is a character who appears as the central antagonist in the anime Beyblade: Shogun Steel. His background is deeply rooted in the events of the preceding series, Beyblade: Metal Fusion and Beyblade: Metal Fury, where he served as a major recurring villain and the former leader of the Dark Nebula organization. Following his apparent demise at the hands of Ryuga, Doji is revived by his loyal subordinate, Merci, for the events of Shogun Steel. He is converted into light energy and stored within the Hades computer system, later being placed into a large robotic suit known as Robo Doji, which serves as his physical vessel.
In terms of personality, Doji remains a cruel, arrogant, and highly manipulative individual. He is never one to give up on his goals, consistently using his intellect and strategic mind to stay ahead of his enemies. Speaking in a consistently polite yet condescending tone, he often addresses others as my friend while clearly viewing them as beneath him. His primary motivation in Shogun Steel is to exact revenge on his foes and to restore his former organization, Dark Nebula, under a new name: DNA, which stands for Dark Nebula Again. As a disembodied entity, he is particularly driven by his inability to experience physical sensations, becoming obsessed with making his enemies suffer and using the Synchrome System to break the WBBA.
Doji's role in the story is that of the secret mastermind behind DNA, the main antagonistic organization that the protagonist Zero Kurogane and his friends oppose. He pulls the strings from behind the scenes, using Team Garcias and other bladers to further his goals. Unlike the first two series, Doji serves as the main antagonist of Shogun Steel, posing a significant threat to the WBBA and the future of Beyblading itself. Key relationships include his adversarial connection with the legendary blader Gingka Hagane, whom he considers his main enemy and subsequently imprisons as part of his scheme. He also has a manipulative relationship with Kira Hayama, a powerful blader working for DNA, though Doji ultimately betrays him when he is no longer useful.
Throughout this concluding arc of the Metal Saga, Doji's development marks a transformation from a human schemer to a being of pure energy and, finally, to a mechanical entity. He appears to his enemies as a hologram of his original design from the Metal Fusion era, suggesting a vanity that wishes to be seen as he once was. In the final confrontation, Doji pilots Robo Doji, a massive robotic suit that can transform into a beyblade to do battle. This form is eventually destroyed when Gingka, Zero, and even the betrayed Kira combine their power to defeat his mech for good. Notable abilities in this form include controlling the powerful Robo Doji suit, launching a beyblade from within this mecha to assist his allies in battle, and utilizing the resources and facilities of the Dark Fortress, his stronghold.
