Description
Akuya Onizaki is a recurring antagonist in the Beyblade: Shogun Steel series, known for his role as an eccentric and mean-spirited Blader who leads his own gang. His name includes the character for demon, which reflects his intimidating and aggressive nature.

Physically, Akuya is depicted as a muscular teenager with blue hair cut to neck length and brown eyes. His appearance is further distinguished by multiple tattoos and sharp teeth, giving him a frightening and thuggish look that matches his personality. His attire incorporates the color purple along with a large brown scarf, a style that draws comparisons to certain legendary Bladers from the past.

Akuya’s personality is marked by eccentricity, intimidation, and a tendency to bear a vicious smirk while laughing maniacally. He frequently taunts his opponents with insults and shows little regard for fair play. This behavior is reminiscent of Kyoya Tategami before his character development, as well as the legendary Blader Aguma, with whom Akuya shares several physical and stylistic traits including spiky hair, thick eyebrows, and a muscular build.

Motivated by a desire to prove his strength and dominate other Bladers, Akuya often resorts to underhanded tactics. He is almost always accompanied by his gang, a group of Bladers who use Hybrid Wheel System Beyblades and share their leader’s confrontational personality. His primary goal is to defeat strong opponents like Zyro Kurogane and assert his dominance over Bey Park, though he consistently fails to achieve victory.

In the story, Akuya first appears alongside his gang to confront Zyro Kurogane after watching his consecutive wins at Bey Park. He challenges Zyro to a battle but reveals his true nature when his gang members join the fight, turning the match into an unfair multi-person assault on Zyro’s Samurai Ifraid. Despite this advantage, Zyro defeats Akuya using his special move, Burning Upper. Akuya later attempts to reserve the Bey Park Stadium Dome for himself and his gang, intimidating other Bladers into backing down. He encounters Yoshio Iwayama and unsuccessfully tries to recruit him, leading to another battle where Akuya and his entire gang are easily defeated by Yoshio’s defense-type Beyblade, Bandit Goreim. Akuya later participates in the Neo Battle Bladers tournament, winning some early matches before being eliminated.

Akuya’s key relationships are primarily with his gang members, who serve as his supporters and enforcers, and with his rivals, particularly Zyro Kurogane and Yoshio Iwayama. He shows a pattern of relying on his gang to gang up on opponents, yet this strategy consistently backfires against skilled Bladers. His interactions with Zyro and Yoshio highlight his arrogance and inability to accept defeat, as he rushes to retrieve his Beyblade after losses and expresses a desire for revenge.

Regarding development, Akuya shows little personal growth throughout the series. He remains a minor antagonist defined by his arrogance, his reliance on unfair tactics, and his consistent failure to win important battles. Despite being a gang leader who intimidates weaker Bladers, he never secures a victory against named characters, even with the help of his entire gang.

Akuya’s notable abilities center on his Beyblade, Archer Gargole SA165WSF, which is an attack-type Beyblade. He uses a black Zero-G Launcher Grip with a gold Zero-G Compact Launcher featuring black prongs and a green ripcord. His battle strategy involves using his gang members’ Beyblades to surround and constantly strike his opponent while his own Beyblade engages directly, overwhelming the target through sheer numbers rather than individual skill.
