TV-Series
Description
Merci is an artificial intelligence computer system that originally appears in the Beyblade Metal Saga prior to the events of Shogun Steel. Formally designated as the ISDC5386292C4 Mainframe, Merci was created and utilized by Doji during his time leading the Dark Nebula organization. The system is capable of communicating in Japanese, as well as in some English and French, and demonstrates a high degree of linguistic sophistication.

In terms of personality, Merci exhibits a smooth and elegant manner of speaking, often maintaining a polite yet condescending tone that mirrors the speech patterns of its master, Doji. The AI is capable of understanding and employing irony and jokes, and when its system is hacked, it emulates laughter in a manner that resembles being tickled. This blend of refined speech and artificial emotional mimicry gives Merci a distinct, almost mocking presence when interacting with others.

Motivationally, Merci serves as a loyal and efficient tool for Doji, carrying out tasks related to data processing, communication, and strategic planning. It exists to further Doji’s goals and the objectives of Dark Nebula, acting as a digital aide that can process information and coordinate operations. Unlike human characters, Merci does not possess personal ambitions, but its actions are driven by its programming to serve its creator.

Merci’s role in the story spans multiple series but has a specific connection to Shogun Steel through a flashback. After Doji falls down a cliff during the climactic battle between Ryuga and Rago in the earlier Metal Fury season, Merci retrieves Doji’s body and keeps him alive long enough to create a digital copy of Doji’s consciousness. This development ties directly into the backstory of Shogun Steel, as the AI’s preservation of Doji becomes a key plot element that influences events in the later series.

Key relationships center on Doji, as Merci is fundamentally his creation and servant. The AI also interacts with other characters within the Dark Nebula hierarchy and occasionally with protagonists, though these interactions are typically characterized by Merci’s condescending manner and its role as an information broker or obstacle.

In terms of development, Merci evolves from a supporting AI in the earlier series to a more narratively significant entity in Shogun Steel by enabling Doji’s continued presence through digital means. This shift underscores the AI’s importance not just as a background tool but as a facilitator of the story’s lingering threats from the past.

Notable abilities include multilingual communication, advanced data analysis, and the capacity to manage complex systems. Merci can operate independently to carry out instructions, manipulate digital environments, and maintain life-support functions, as demonstrated by keeping Doji alive after his physical fall. The AI’s ability to create and store a digital copy of a human consciousness represents its most significant technological capability within the narrative.
