Description
Eito Unabara is one of the main protagonists in Beyblade: Shogun Steel. He is a young boy with scraggy blue hair, green eyes, and a slender build. His typical attire consists of an orange and white jacket paired with orange pants, as well as white and blue shoes. He is often seen with a pair of headphones resting around his neck and is frequently accompanied by his skateboard, which he uses for both transportation and recreation.
Eito is the younger brother of Kite Unabara, and the two share a strong bond and a thematic connection to the element of water. Eito displays a notably complex personality that blends arrogance, immaturity, and deep-seated loyalty. On the surface, he can be disagreeable, obstinate, complaining, and whiny. He is an exceptionally skilled Blader and is very confident in his abilities, often quickly judging that his opponent will lose based on their battle style. However, he is also known for being a sore loser and is called a cry-baby when he does not win. A signature and humiliating habit of his following a victory is to draw on the face of his defeated opponent with a pen as a form of penalty game.
Despite his cocky and self-centered demeanor, which involves a dislike for hard work and hot-blooded effort, Eito demonstrates a calm and relaxed side rooted in his confidence. His most defining trait is his unwavering devotion to his older brother. Similar to how Benkei Hanawa followed Kyoya Tategami in the past, Eito devotedly follows Kite, constantly complimenting him and becoming infuriated when his brother is mocked or loses. In return, Kite is protective of Eito, and Eito is motivated to battle in his brother's place or avenge his defeats. He also plays a key role in calming Kite down when his brother begins to have a meltdown during intense battles.
Eito's role in the story begins as a rival to the protagonist, Zyro Kurogane. He first appears challenging Zyro, using skateboarding tactics to overwhelm him in the Shogun Steel Stadium and espousing a belief that talent is everything and effort is meaningless. After losing to Zyro and receiving a penalty drawing on his own face, he constantly seeks to get revenge with the help of his brother. The two eventually form a formidable tag-team, using their Beys to create a Synchromed combination. After being defeated again by Zyro and his friend Shinobu Hiryuin, Eito and Kite agree to join Zyro's group, motivated by a desire for eventual revenge. Throughout the series, Eito participates in various battles, including the Neo Battle Bladers tournament where he is eliminated by Kira, and later joins the group in their fight against the evil organization DNA.
Key relationships for Eito include his brother Kite, as well as his friendships and rivalries with the other main characters like Zyro, Shinobu, and Ren Kurenai. He also looks up to the WBBA trainer Benkei Hanawa, who devises special training for the Unabara brothers. Over the course of the story, Eito shows some development, moving from a solitary bully who humiliates opponents to a member of a team, though he maintains his core personality traits and his primary motivation of bettering himself alongside his brother.
His notable abilities extend beyond Beyblading. He is a highly skilled skateboarder, and his battle style directly mirrors his skateboarding techniques, allowing him to move his Bey in ways that control the rotation of the Zero-G stadium. His Beyblade is Pirate Orochi 145D, a stamina-type Bey with a water motif based on the mythical Yamata no Orochi. When Synchromed with his brother Kite's Bey, Guardian Leviathan, they form the powerful Orochi Leviathan 160SB, which is heavy enough to stop the stadium from rotating and can execute the devastating special move Spiral Crush.
