Description
Gou Tetsujo, known by the epithet Iron Strip Torture, is a character introduced in the anime Duel Masters Victory V. He is a student who shares a classroom with the protagonist, Katta Kirifuda, and quickly establishes himself as an unusual and unsettling presence among his peers.

His defining personality trait is a deep fascination with the macabre, specifically ghost stories and urban legends. He has a persistent habit of gathering his classmates after school or during free periods to regale them with terrifying tales, seemingly taking great pleasure in their fearful reactions. His demeanor is typically quiet and unassuming, which makes his sudden shifts into storytelling mode all the more startling for those around him. This love for fear is not merely for entertainment; it is intrinsically linked to his identity as a Duel Master.

Gou Tetsujo’s central motivation is to evoke genuine terror in others, both through his narratives and his dueling style. He does not simply want to win a card fight; he wants to psychologically overwhelm his opponent, to curse them and leave them shaken. This desire stems from a deep-seated belief in the power of curses and the atmosphere of dread, which he attempts to weaponize in his duels. His role in the story is that of a rival who challenges Katta and his friends not just with strength, but with psychological warfare, forcing them to confront fear itself.

Key relationships in his life involve people who inadvertently enable his antics. It is revealed that two other characters, Leo Hyakujuu and Nanmo Nai, were secretly assisting him in creating the perfect atmosphere for his ghost stories. They would play creepy piano music and move mannequins around the school to set the scene, showcasing that he relies on collaborators to manifest his frightening visions. His primary rivalry is with Katta Kirifuda, whom he eventually challenges to a duel after being discovered masquerading as the ghost of Hanako in the school toilets. Another significant duel is against a character named Yohdel, whom Gou defeats decisively, using his tactics to scare him badly.

Throughout his appearance, Gou Tetsujo undergoes a minor but important development. While initially presented as a truly mysterious and frightening figure, his methods are eventually uncovered, revealing him to be a dedicated showman and strategist rather than a genuinely supernatural entity. When Katta recognizes his state of mind as wakamama mode, a term for a stubborn, childlike focus, it reframes Gou’s menace as an intense form of play, leading to a direct card battle to settle the matter.

His notable abilities are split between his real-world actions and his dueling strategy. In the real world, he is a skilled actor and stage manager, capable of using lighting, sound, and props like moving mannequins to create a terrifying ambiance. He also disguises himself convincingly, as seen when he posed as a school ghost. In the card game, his dueling abilities are defined by his Darkness Civilization deck, which centers on Ghost creatures. His strategy revolves around what he calls the Seven Incredible Curses, a series of tactical maneuvers designed to trap and demoralize his opponent. His signature card, which he uses to great effect to scare his rivals, is Snake Tailcoat, Black Demon of Torture, a creature that embodies his love for dark themes and psychological attacks.
