TV-Series
Description
Minami Amada, also known by her nickname Miami or Dr. Miami, is a Japanese robotics expert and the lead scientist at the Märchen Toy Company in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. She is the closest friend and intellectual partner of Koko Hekmatyar, and the two have been secretly collaborating on the ambitious project codenamed Jormungand, which forms the core of Koko's long-term plan. Despite her world-class expertise in robotics and quantum computing, Minami originally aspired to use her knowledge to create toys rather than weapons, though she shows no moral discomfort when her inventions are applied to military or world-altering ends.
Her personality is marked by a combination of genius-level intellect and a notably free-spirited, eccentric nature. She is an avid amateur lepidopterist, often abandoning her duties for days at a time to hunt rare butterflies, a habit that frequently exasperates her bodyguards and colleagues. Her single-minded focus on her hobbies can lead to dangerous inattention, such as walking off cliffs or forgetting important appointments. She also enjoys fishing, collecting seashells, and smoking strong Indonesian clove cigarettes, which she lights with a jet lighter. When upset, she shares Koko’s peculiar habit of rolling around on the nearest flat surface, a trait that underscores their deep bond.
Minami’s motivation is intrinsically tied to Koko’s vision. She believes in the necessity of the Jormungand project and serves as its technical architect, providing the quantum computing and robotics backbone that makes it possible. She is not driven by personal ambition for power or wealth but rather by scientific curiosity and loyalty to her friend. Her role in the story is that of the hidden mastermind behind the scenes; while Koko handles the logistics, combat, and political maneuvering, Minami creates the technological means for their plan to succeed. She is under constant surveillance by the CIA due to her involvement with Koko, and as a result is protected by a rotating team of bodyguards, including Mokoena, Malin, and later former Daxinghai officer Karen Low, who becomes her dedicated assistant and close confidante.
Key relationships include her friendship with Koko, which is the most significant personal connection in her life. She also works closely with other recruited scientists such as Elena Baburin and Leyla Ibrahim Faiza, forming a cooperative team to complete the final components of Jormungand. Her interactions with Koko’s private army, especially the young soldier Jonah, are marked by a playful, almost teasing curiosity. Over the course of the series, she remains a stable, albeit eccentric, presence, undergoing little personal change but contributing crucially to the narrative’s climax. Her most notable abilities are her genius-level skill in robotics and quantum computing, allowing her to build advanced autonomous weapon systems and the central Jormungand network, as well as her calm, unflappable demeanor in high-pressure situations. She is arguably the most technically capable character in the series, serving as the key that unlocks Koko’s world-changing ambitions.
