Description
Hart Tenjo, known as Haruto Tenjo in the original Japanese version, is a central supporting character in the second year of the Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL anime series. He is the younger brother of the powerful duelist Kite Tenjo and the younger son of the primary antagonist, Dr. Faker. Hart is a frail and sickly boy who was born with a critical illness, a condition that drives the entire conflict involving his family.

Prior to the events of the story, Hart lived a happy and playful life with his older brother Kite and their robot companion Orbital 7 in a small villa, where he enjoyed drinking hot chocolate and eating caramel candy. However, his latent and immense powers, which originate from the Barian World, were discovered. To save Hart's life, his father made a deal with the malevolent Barian emperor Vector, who sustained Hart in exchange for Dr. Faker using his son's abilities to destroy the Astral World. This deal warps Hart's personality, and he is taken to live in Heartland Tower, where his powers are abused to send destructive energy into the Astral World.

Hart's personality is defined by a tragic duality. When he is not actively using his Barian powers, he is depicted as vulnerable, quiet, and melancholic, often confined to his bed or staring blankly out of a window, wondering why he cannot share in the laughter of the people below. Kite remembers that this is not his true nature, as Hart used to be kind, talkative, and full of joy. When he is forced to use his abilities, a darker, sadistic personality takes over. In this state, he laughs at the suffering of the Astral World's inhabitants and declares that he needs their screams, as that is what comforts him. This corrupted state is also physically marked by blank stares and bags under his eyes. After he is finally freed from the Barian World's influence, his original, kind-hearted personality fully returns.

Hart's role in the story is primarily that of a motivating force and a living macguffin. His critical condition and exploitation are the reasons Kite becomes a ruthless Number Hunter, as Kite is told that collecting one hundred Number cards is the only way to heal his brother. Throughout the series, Hart is frequently the target of other villains, such as Vetrix, who attempts to extract Hart's powers for his own ritual. Despite his passive role as a victim, Hart demonstrates a powerful will, particularly when his brother is in danger. During a crucial duel, Hart uses his remaining power to resonate with Kite, allowing him to summon the incredibly powerful "Neo Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon" and turn the tide of battle.

His key relationships define the narrative. His bond with his brother Kite is the most significant; Kite's entire motivation is to save Hart, and Hart loves and trusts his brother implicitly. He also develops a strong connection with the protagonist Yuma Tsukumo and his ethereal partner Astral. Hart is one of the few characters who can naturally see and hear Astral. Yuma treats Hart with kindness, offering him caramel to calm him down, which helps establish a friendship between them. Hart eventually comes to care deeply for Yuma as well, and is instrumental in saving both him and Kite in the final battle against Dr. Faker. His relationship with his father is more complex; Dr. Faker initially claims to be using Hart's powers to save the world, but it is eventually revealed that he is being manipulated by Vector. In the end, Hart uses his powers to free Astral, directly helping to save his father from Vector's possession.

Hart's notable abilities are vast but primarily non-combative. He possesses powers derived from the Barian World that allow him to create portals to other dimensions, teleport himself and others across great distances, and project massive amounts of energy. He can transfer his power directly to another person, as he does with Kite to empower his dragon. His power is also shown to be capable of freeing Astral from the Sphere Field Cannon, a massive weapon of destruction, although doing so completely exhausts his abilities.
