Description
Otohime is a recurring supporting character in the anime and manga series Muromi-san, also known as Namiuchigiwa no Muromi-san. She is introduced as a powerful supernatural figure of the sea, described as the witch of the deep. Her background centers on her former career as the operator of Ryuuguujou Castle, a popular and successful underwater business. After the enterprise closed down, she began working on land at a fishing goods shop called Bait & Tackle Period. She is convinced that the mermaids, especially the main character Muromi and her associates, spread false rumors that caused her business to fail, and she holds a deep and lasting grudge against them as a result.

In terms of personality, Otohime is proud, haughty, and greedy, and she is prone to strong persecution delusions, believing herself to be the victim of the mermaids' scheming. She is also quick to vent her frustrations, and her oarfish, which once served as her familiar, is frequently on the receiving end of her outbursts and mood swings. She is straightforward about her own emotions but lacks self-reflection, which makes her a difficult and troublesome person to deal with. Her spite toward Muromi grows with each encounter, although the two were not originally on bad terms; their feud developed through misunderstandings and Muromi's tendency to believe the rumors spread about Otohime.

Her main motivation throughout the story is her resentment over the collapse of her underwater kingdom and her desire to assign blame, which repeatedly brings her into conflict with Muromi and her friends. Within the story, she functions as a rival and comic foil to the mermaid cast, appearing primarily to clash with Muromi over their old grievances. Despite her hostility, she is capable of behaving normally when other parties are involved, suggesting that her enmity is largely directed specifically at Muromi rather than at everyone around her.

As a witch of the deep, Otohime possesses supernatural abilities inherited from the mermaid world, including the capacity to communicate with animals and sea creatures that ordinary humans cannot understand. She also commands an oarfish as her familiar. In terms of development, she remains largely defined by her accumulated grudge, but her backstory frames her as a once-prosperous figure brought low by misfortune, whose pride and vengefulness keep her from moving past her losses.
