TV-Series
Description
Kazuki Kuwanomi is a central supporting character who serves as the director of field work and a Spotter at Terminal Service No. 1, making her the second-in-command to the department manager, Takao Yamanobe. Her professional role places her as the direct superior to the protagonist, Tsukasa Mizugaki, and she is responsible for overseeing the teams that retrieve Giftia whose lifespans have expired.
Kazuki has a slender build and an above-average height, with a signature appearance defined by her red hair styled in a low bun reminiscent of a bird's tail, complete with bangs swept to the left side. Her wardrobe features a sleeveless white shirt with black collars and trims, which she wears with separate white sleeves and dark-brown slacks, complemented by red heels.
Her personality is defined by a sharp contrast between her professional demeanor and her deep personal loyalties. During work, Kazuki adopts a no-nonsense, strict leadership style; she is a demanding superior who has little patience for slackers or anything that interferes with the completion of their duties. However, this strict exterior masks a profoundly empathetic individual who understands the emotional weight of her team's work. This is most evident in her relationship with Isla, a Giftia who was her former partner. Kazuki's devotion to Isla is so powerful that she successfully convinced all the staff at Terminal Service No. 1 to adopt Isla's client-focused methods, even though these personalized approaches are highly inefficient and costly from the corporation's financial perspective. Outside of work, she enjoys drinking but is known to have an exceptionally low tolerance for alcohol.
Her motivations are driven by a combination of professional responsibility and a personal sense of protectiveness, particularly regarding Isla. In the past, Kazuki was Isla's spotter, but a mission to recover the Giftia parent of a girl named Michiru Kinushima went disastrously wrong. During this incident, Kazuki sustained a serious injury that resulted in the loss of her right leg, a consequence of shielding Isla from harm. Following this traumatic event, she dissolved her partnership with Isla, an act that was likely born from a mix of physical necessity and emotional guilt.
Kazuki's role in the story is initially as a stern authority figure. She is a key part of the team that introduces Tsukasa to the harsh realities of Giftia retrieval. Her most significant actions, however, come from her intervention in the relationship between Tsukasa and Isla. Upon noticing their budding feelings for each other, Kazuki took the decisive step of dissolving their partnership, reassigning Tsukasa to work with the Giftia Constance while she personally took Isla back as her own partner. This seemingly harsh move was later revealed to be part of a calculated plan to convince Isla that her fear of hurting Tsukasa near her expiration date was misguided. Kazuki wanted to show Isla that pushing Tsukasa away was not the right choice for either of them.
Her relationships are a core part of her character. Her bond with Isla is the most significant, marked by a history of tragedy and a fierce, maternal protectiveness. She also has a connection to Michiru Kinushima, visiting her in the hospital while she recovered from the trauma of witnessing her parent's retrieval, and she serves as a respected senior figure in the workplace to Tsukasa and others.
Over the course of the narrative, Kazuki's development is seen in her shift from a strict, emotionally guarded leader to a more openly supportive figure. On Isla's final operational day, she took Isla's ID card and firmly told the couple to spend what little time they had left together, free from work obligations, and later watched over them from a distance. After Isla's deactivation, she expressed her gratitude to Tsukasa for staying by Isla's side until the very end. In the epilogue of the story, she was present to greet Tsukasa after he completed nine months of training, introducing him to a new partner as life at Terminal Service No. 1 continued.
Notable abilities include her skills as a Spotter, a role requiring leadership, quick decision-making, and tactical coordination during retrieval missions. She commands respect and is highly capable in the field, despite the physical limitations imposed by her prosthetic leg.
