Description
Fudo de la Vierge is the Gold Saint who serves as the guardian of the sixth temple, the House of Virgo, in the Sanctuary under the god of war Mars. He is known as the saint who governs both punishment and salvation. Physically, Fudo has a distinctive appearance, with long, sea-green hair, tanned or brown skin, and heterochromatic eyes, one of which is typically purple and the other yellow. When not wearing his Virgo Cloth, he often wears a traditional Indian-style robe and carries the iconic symbolic weapons of his divine nature, a flaming sword and a sacred rope. His very name and nature are tied to the Buddhist deity Fudo Myoo, also known as Acala, of whom he is said to be the reincarnation.

Fudo is a character of profound passive intensity. In the past, he was a peaceful individual who traveled the world praying for the salvation of the Earth and all humanity. However, he became deeply disillusioned upon witnessing the relentless cruelty, arrogance, and self-destructive behavior of humans, who polluted the planet and fought among themselves. This experience led him to conclude that the current world was beyond saving and that the only solution was to tear it down and create a new one. This philosophy aligned perfectly with the goals of his old friend, the god Mars. Fudo shares Mars's vision of a new utopia where the strong would rule over the weak to maintain order, and he accepted the Virgo Gold Cloth to help realize that dream. His personality embodies the two poles of his divine origin: he is a being of light who seeks to safeguard souls, but he is also a harsh punisher of human sin, believing that for those on the path to destruction, the only true salvation is death.

In the story, Fudo acts as a formidable and immovable obstacle for the Bronze Saints, Koga, Soma, Haruto, Yuna, and Ryuho. He single-handedly overwhelms them without even wearing his Gold Cloth, demonstrating the vast gap in their power. The interior of his temple is said to be a purgatory filled with hellfire that drains the life force of those who enter. His role in this arc is to test the resolve and strength of the young saints, but his deeper purpose is revealed when he faces Orion Eden, the son of Mars. Seeing that Eden fights not simply for revenge but out of genuine regret and a sincere desire to create a just world, Fudo chooses to step aside and let him pass, deciding to observe which man, father or son, would ultimately build the better world. This marks a key point in his development. While initially a devout follower of Mars, he later begins to doubt his old friend's methods and ultimately defects to Athena's side, becoming a true Gold Saint of the 21st century and joining the other surviving Gold Saints in the war against Pallas.

Fudo maintains several key relationships. His most significant is with Mars, whom he considers an old and dear friend. Their shared history and dream of a new world are the primary reasons Fudo became a Gold Saint. He also has a notable connection with the Bronze Saint Eden, serving as a philosophical adversary who ultimately recognizes and respects Eden's pure motivations. Among his fellow Gold Saints, he is considered one of the most powerful of his era, possessing a cosmos of immense magnitude. He also demonstrates the ability to work in concert with other Gold Saints, such as combining their cosmos with Kiki, Genbu, and Harbinger to transport the Bronze Saints to Mars.

Fudo possesses a wide array of powerful techniques, largely derived from his nature as the incarnation of Fudo Myoo. He wields the element of fire. Many of his abilities involve sacred mantras: he uses Kan to create an impenetrable barrier to repel any attack, and Om to reverse the flow of an enemy's attack back onto them. He also employs his sacred rope in the technique Shogyo Danzai (Condemnation of Worldly), which binds the opponent and crushes them, and the Shoji Sokumei Han (Life and Death are Nirvana), which tightens the ropes and combines them with a slash from his sword. His most powerful attacks include the Myoo Rairin (Descent of the Enlightened King), where he conjures the five Kings of Wisdom behind him to judge and smite his enemy, and the Bodai Shogo (Enlightenment of Bodhi), where he summons a massive golden sword to unleash a devastating lightning-like blast. Fudo is also able to change his form to reflect different levels of enlightenment or spiritual states, with his hair turning gold and the surrounding environment changing to reflect a more peaceful yet powerful aspect.
