Description
Eirenus, known in Japanese as エイレヌス, is a prominent antagonist in Chain Chronicle: The Light of Haecceitas. She serves as one of the highest-ranking commanders within the Black Army and operates as a direct subordinate to the Black King, holding the title of Demon of Destruction. Her position makes her a major obstacle for the Volunteer Army throughout the story, and she is frequently depicted as the first significant blackened enemy the main group encounters.

Physically, Eirenus is a female character with distinctive features that mark her demonic nature. She possesses long pink hair that reaches her hips, red eyes, and notably purple or violet skin. Her typical attire consists of minimal armor that leaves most of her body exposed. She also has small wings on her head and a tattoo or marking of the number three on her body, the significance of which remains unexplained in the narrative.

The background of Eirenus is defined by a tragic transformation. Before becoming a demon, she was originally a human who fought against the Black Army. She was likely a knight or a commander of a military order, potentially of significant rank. During her human life, she lost all of her allies and comrades in a battle against the forces of the Black King. The overwhelming despair and trauma from this defeat caused her to undergo a process known as blackening, which transformed her into a demon, wiped away her human memories, and shifted her loyalty to the Black King.

Her personality in the present is that of a ruthless, confrontational, and sadistic villain. She is a card-carrying villain who embraces her evil nature. Eirenus takes pleasure in toying with her enemies, particularly targeting Phoena, and uses psychological manipulation and psychological warfare to break her opponents. She views bonds of friendship and loyalty as nothing but trouble, believing that trying to protect others only leads to getting hurt. Despite her corruption, she is characterized by a fierce and absolute loyalty to the Black King, which serves as the primary driver for all her actions.

Eirenus acts as the main instigator of the Black Army's early offensives against the Volunteer Army. Her primary role is to execute the Black King's will and hinder the heroes journey at every turn, often leading her own troops into battle. She has a specific and recurring goal of capturing Phoena, presumably to deliver her to the Black King to fulfill his destructive plans for the world of Yggdra. Although a powerful threat early on, her narrative importance diminishes as the story progresses and the Volunteer Army faces even greater dangers.

Her key relationships are defined by her allegiances and animosities. She is entirely devoted to the Black King as his dragon and right hand. Among her enemies, she has a strong confrontational relationship with Phoena, whom she targets specifically and enjoys tormenting. She also engages with Shuza, criticizing his beliefs about bonds and strength, viewing him as no different from anyone else. There is also a narrative connection suggested between Eirenus and Einslotte, as they both held positions as commanders in their respective past lives, which adds a layer of parallel to their conflict.

The character undergoes a significant development at the time of her defeat. After being beaten by the Volunteer Army, she experiences a moment of awakening as she is dying. In this state, fragments of her suppressed human memories resurface, and she becomes confused, recalling her past life as a protector. She recognizes her enemies as the good guys and expresses regret, saying she wishes she had met them sooner, implying that had their paths crossed before her transformation, her fate might have been different. She ultimately fades out of existence.

As a magic-class unit, Eirenus possesses several notable abilities focused on area-of-effect attacks and battlefield control. Her skills include Ancient Nova, which deals moderate damage and knocks back all enemies in her row. Her most powerful super skill is called World Destruction, which inflicts massive, long-range damage, lowers enemy defense, and causes knockback. Her passive ability, Crimson World, enables her to perform penetrating ranged attacks that deal fire damage and restore health to allied demons based on the damage inflicted. Another ability, Black Booster, increases her own attack, defense, and critical hit rate as she accumulates mana. Her mere presence on the battlefield passively boosts the attack and defense of all allied demons.
