Description
The Black King serves as the primary antagonist and the formidable leader of the Black Army, the dark force that threatens to engulf the continent of Yggdra in shadow. Before his descent into darkness, he was a caring father to his daughter, Phoena, demonstrating a capacity for love, such as enduring her terrible cooking for her sake. However, by the time of the main story, he has become a tyrannical figure with a nihilistic outlook, seeking to rule the land and spread a corrupting miasma through his forces. He is a physically imposing man with gray hair, black eyes, and the appearance of a senior, often clad in a striking cape that marks his status.

The Black King's primary motivation is the conquest of Yggdra, which he successfully initiates by killing the Holy King and seizing the royal capital. He also desires to claim the Chain Chronicle, a mystical book that records all of the world's history, and to force his daughter, Phoena, to join him. His actions are driven by a wish for domination, yet the narrative reveals that he is not the ultimate evil. He is, in fact, an unwitting pawn used by the true powers behind the Black Army, and his Chronicle, a counterpart to the main one, has been drawn to the source of the scourge.

In the story of Chain Chronicle: The Light of Haecceitas, the Black King is the central obstacle that the Volunteer Army, led by Yuri, must overcome. The narrative begins with his victory over the allied forces of Yggdra, where he personally defeats Yuri, tears the Chain Chronicle in half, and causes the sprite Pirika to vanish. This devastating defeat disbands the alliance and sets the stage for the Volunteer Army's desperate fight to recover. The Black King rules from the captured royal castle, commanding his legions in a campaign to plunge the world into darkness.

His most significant relationship is with his daughter, Phoena. Despite his later cruelty, their familial bond is the core of his personal tragedy. In the past, he was a loving father, but as the Black King, he strikes her when she refuses his command to join him. He is also the master of the Black Knight, a tragic figure from an alternate universe who serves as his most powerful subordinate. The Black King's primary adversary is Yuri, the leader of the Volunteer Army, whom he easily overpowers in their first encounter.

Throughout the story, the Black King undergoes a significant transformation, not through redemption, but through a physical and metaphysical metamorphosis. He is capable of assuming a One-Winged Angel form, transforming into a massive dragon for the final battle against the heroes. His most crucial development occurs at the moment of his defeat. As he lies dying after being vanquished, the corruption that consumed him fades away, and he regains his original senses and sanity for a short time before finally perishing, allowing him to die as himself rather than as a monster.

The Black King possesses formidable abilities befitting his title. He wields powerful dark magic, which he can use to strike down opponents like Yuri with a single blow. He also has the power to summon endless waves of Black Soldiers from his army to overwhelm his enemies. His ultimate ability is his transformation into a giant dragon, a final, devastating form that represents the peak of his corrupted power and serves as the climactic challenge for the Volunteer Army.
