TV-Series
Description
Kishward, known as the Twin-Blade General, is a distinguished marzban, or border guard commander, of the Kingdom of Pars. He was born into a prestigious knightly family with a long history of service to the royal court. Prior to the story's events, his reputation as a skilled swordsman and commander was such that the neighboring nation of Misr, fearing his presence on their border, specifically requested his removal as a condition of a truce. Consequently, he was reassigned to guard the eastern fortress of Peshawar.

He is a man of impressive physical stature, with a handsome, bearded face and gentle eyes, and is often seen wearing a large grey cloak over his armor. In terms of personality, Kishward embodies the ideal of military conduct. He is courageous, awe-inspiring in battle, and possesses a strong sense of responsibility. His conduct is sincere and scrupulous; he is not one to act on a whim or emotion, preferring instead to base his decisions on facts and practical considerations. This makes him a stable and reliable presence within the Parsian forces. Behind his resolute exterior, he has a friendly disposition and a notable fondness for hawks, keeping a pet hawk named Azrael.

As a master of twin swords, he is often described as a living wall of defense, and his might is unquestioned by both allies and enemies. He holds a position of great authority, being a Commander of Ten Thousand. During the disastrous Battle of Atropatene, which saw the Parsian army crushed by the Lusitanian forces, Kishward was stationed at Peshawar with his comrade Bahman. It was to this fortress that the young Prince Arslan and his companions fled for refuge. Upon their arrival and learning of the kingdom's fall, Kishward chose to serve Arslan in his quest to liberate Pars, acting out of his profound sense of duty to the throne.

Kishward's primary motivation is his absolute loyalty to the Parsian throne. This deep-seated devotion, however, becomes the source of significant internal conflict. When he learns that his liege, King Andragoras III, is not dead but has been held captive, he finds himself caught between his allegiance to the rightful king and his service to the prince. Unlike the more impulsive Daryun, Kishward privately agonizes over this dilemma. He wonders if Arslan’s ideals, which he considers perhaps too extraordinary for the rigid social structures of Pars, are morally just. He questions whether serving the young prince is the correct path, making his loyalty a thoughtful and principled struggle rather than a simple one. Despite these private misgivings, he continues to serve faithfully, and his relationship with Arslan is one of respect, speaking to the prince with proper deference while occasionally allowing for joyful remarks.

A key moment in his development involves the discovery of a mysterious note that likely held the secret of Arslan’s birth. Though the note was destroyed before he could read it, the incident reinforces his understanding of a curse afflicting the royal family and he seems to accept the prince’s destiny regardless. One notable conversation with Lord Sam highlights the moral complexities faced by Parsian generals as they choose which leader to follow in the civil war.

In terms of abilities, Kishward is a formidable warrior of legendary status. His primary skill is his mastery of dual-bladed combat, which has earned him the title Twin Sword General. He is equally proficient with a spear, further demonstrating his versatility as a cavalry general. His defensive capabilities are so renowned that he is considered a living wall, an immovable guardian on the battlefield. In the extended story beyond the anime, after Arslan successfully takes the throne, Kishward is appointed to the high rank of Eran. He also marries a woman named Nasrin, and the prince himself names their son Ayyar, a name meaning a man with a chivalrous spirit, reflecting the high esteem in which he is held.
