Description
In the world of Overlord, the title King of the Forest, also known as the Wise King of the Forest, refers to a powerful magical beast named Hamsuke. This creature is a giant, anthropomorphic hamster with silvery-white fur and a long, scaly tail that resembles a snake's, measuring approximately twenty meters in length. Before its encounter with the protagonist, Hamsuke was a legendary ruler of the Great Forest of Tob, where it had lived for over two centuries and was feared by other monsters and respected by local inhabitants as the Great Demon Beast of the South.

Hamsuke is highly intelligent, capable of speaking the human language fluently, though it uses an archaic and somewhat pompous manner of speech. Initially, Hamsuke possesses a very boastful and prideful personality, fully confident in its own strength and status as the undisputed ruler of its domain. This pride is a core part of its identity, as it viewed itself as a majestic and wise sovereign. However, this self-perception is challenged upon meeting Ainz Ooal Gown, who finds the creature's cute and unassuming appearance utterly disappointing and unfitting for its grand title.

The primary motivation for Hamsuke is a deep-seated loneliness and a desire to find others of its kind. Having never encountered another creature like itself, it was drawn to Ainz, who is also searching for his lost comrades, creating a sense of kinship. After Ainz effortlessly defeats Hamsuke by using his Despair Aura, a fear-inducing ability, the creature's pride gives way to complete submission. It swears absolute loyalty to Ainz, accepting its new role as his pet and mount, and willingly follows him to become a servant of the Great Tomb of Nazarick.

In the story, Hamsuke's primary role is that of a loyal servant to Ainz, specifically in his adventurer alias, Momon. It serves as his steed and a symbol of his power, helping to bolster his reputation. While by the standards of YGGDRASIL, the game from which Ainz originates, Hamsuke is considered a low-level monster, it is exceptionally powerful by New World standards, with an estimated total level of around 30. Its notable abilities include the use of martial arts, a skill typically reserved for human warriors, and the capacity to cast several magic spells, each represented by a magical sigil on its fur. These spells include "Blindness" and "Charm Species," although its effectiveness as a magic caster is limited. Its most formidable physical weapon is its powerful, snake-like tail, which provides it with a significant reach advantage in combat.

Hamsuke's key relationships are primarily defined by its service to Ainz, whom it calls the Lord of the Rings, and its interactions with other denizens of Nazarick. It trains alongside a Death Knight to learn martial arts and wear armor, showing a sense of camaraderie with its undead training partner. Furthermore, its neutral moral alignment, in contrast to the often malevolent NPCs of Nazarick, leads it to grant a quick and relatively merciful death to an intruder, an act that stands out within the tomb. Over the course of its servitude, Hamsuke develops significantly, evolving from a lazy, self-absorbed ruler to a dedicated and diligent underling, actively working to improve its combat skills to serve its new master better.
