Description
Khajiit Dale Badantel is a character from the anime and light novel series Overlord. He is known as one of the Twelve High Disciples of the secretive and powerful magic organization called Zurrernorn. His full name is Khajiit Dale Badantel, and he deeply despises being referred to by his baptismal name, Dale, as it represents the faith and humanity he has long since abandoned.

Originally from a common village within the Slane Theocracy, Khajiit's early life was unremarkable until a profound tragedy shaped his entire existence. During his childhood, his mother died from a brain-related illness. The defining moment of this trauma was that he arrived home too late to see her one last time, having been delayed by simple childhood distractions like playing with sticks and pretending to be a hero. This event consumed him with guilt and a deep-seated desire to bring her back. He began studying magic for the sole purpose of resurrection, but quickly became frustrated. He learned that conventional divine magic could not revive someone whose vital force had weakened too much, as the body would simply not survive the process. This realization led him to reject his faith and pursue a new, forbidden path: developing a non-faith-based form of resurrection through necromancy.

Khajiit's personality is defined by a cold, calculating, and ruthless nature driven by a singular obsession. He is a meticulous planner, spending five years carefully preparing a grand ritual in the cemetery district of E-Rantel, all to accumulate enough negative energy to achieve his goals. He is completely willing to sacrifice thousands of innocent lives to accomplish his aim, showing no regard for ethics or empathy. Despite his intelligence and patience, he suffers from a profound arrogance and a tendency to underestimate his opponents, having absolute confidence in his own schemes. This confidence borders on delusion, a state exacerbated by the corrupting influence of a magical artifact he relies on, the Orb of Death, which subtly distorts his mind and amplifies his madness without his knowledge. The youthful dream of becoming a hero he once held has long since been twisted into a monomaniacal obsession to conquer death itself.

His primary motivation is, seemingly, to resurrect his mother. However, his logic has become twisted over the decades. He correctly understands that a human lifespan is insufficient to complete his research, so his immediate and most critical goal is to transform himself into an undead being, specifically an Elder Lich. He believes that by becoming an immortal undead, he will have infinite time to perfect his mother's resurrection spell. To this end, he dedicates himself to recreating the Spiral of Death, a legendary forbidden ritual previously performed by the leader of Zurrernorn, which he believes is the key to his own transformation.

Within the story's events, Khajiit serves as an antagonist during the arc set in the city of E-Rantel. He operates from the city's graveyard, using his disciples to help him channel negative energy into the Orb of Death to fuel the Spiral of Death ritual. His plan is to wipe out the city and raise its population as the core of a second undead metropolis. He is allied with Clementine, a sadistic former member of the Black Scripture, who brings him a stolen magical crown to aid their cause. Khajiit has a strictly utilitarian relationship with her, wary of her bloodlust and volatility, but recognizing her strength as a useful tool.

Key relationships for Khajiit are largely transactional. He commands a group of disciples who perform lower-level magic, and he views them as expendable assets. His alliance with Clementine is one of convenience, and he is confident he could destroy her if she became an obstacle. His most pivotal relationship is with his adversaries, Momon and Nabe, who are in reality the supreme being Ainz Ooal Gown and the battle maid Narberal Gamma in disguise. Khajiit misjudges them completely, believing the copper-plate adventurer Nabe to be a minor threat.

In terms of development, Khajiit's arc ends with his death, which serves as a stark illustration of the power gap between the new world and the arriving players from Yggdrasil. When his ritual is in its final stage, he is confronted by Nabe. Confident in his power, he summons his two ultimate servants: Skeletal Dragons, creatures he believes are invincible because they are immune to all magic up to the sixth tier. He is utterly unprepared for Nabe to reveal her true power, casting a seventh-tier spell, Double Maximize Magic: Chain Dragon Lightning. This spell instantly destroys both of his dragons and kills Khajiit, leaving him as a smoldering corpse. In his final moments, he does not regret his evil deeds, but only laments the destruction of his years of work and clings to the lingering desire to see his mother again. After his death, his body was stored by the city's authorities, but it mysteriously vanished. His ultimate fate remains unknown, though it is speculated by other characters that he may have been resurrected by unknown parties.

Khajiit's notable abilities center on specialized necromancy. As a magic caster, he is a pure specialist in the summoning and control of undead, capable of casting spells up to the third tier. His combat style relies on commanding his undead minions and using support magic to strengthen them while he stays behind the front lines. His primary artifact is the Orb of Death, a powerful magical item with a faint will of its own that significantly boosts his necromantic abilities, allowing him to create and control more powerful undead. Under the orb's influence, his signature ability is the summoning of two Skeletal Dragons. While these creatures possess formidable immunity to low and mid-tier magic, this is not the absolute invincibility Khajiit believes it to be. Aside from his summons, his personal offensive capabilities are relatively poor, and his combat power is considered far inferior to that of Clementine.
