Description
Eikha is a young girl who serves as a key member of the Revolutionary Army in Nil Kamui. She is a Bounded One, a race of beings bonded from birth to a ferocious monster through a special vine-like chain. Her specific bonded partner is Val, a large, blind canine creature with bat-like wings. This connection dictates the central circumstances of her life, as she and Val share their life force entirely. Because of this bond, Eikha has a very short lifespan and is not expected to live past the age of fifteen or sixteen.
In terms of appearance, Eikha looks like a ten-year-old human girl with notable physical traits that hint at her unique nature, including cat-like ears and similarly shaped pupils. Before joining the Revolutionary Army, she lived a harsh existence akin to a wild animal. She was later captured by humans and forced to serve a succession of different nobles as a slave. This traumatic past has had a profound effect on her personality, making her appear cold and emotionally detached from others. Despite this exterior, she is not without feeling, and moments of genuine emotion do break through her typically stoic facade.
Eikha’s primary motivation is rooted in loyalty and a strong sense of duty. After being taken in by the Revolutionary Army, she developed a deep friendship with a fellow soldier named Mashiro. More significantly, she was assigned as the personal guardian of Ibuki, a member of the Nil Kamui royal family and the story's protagonist. Her role is to protect him with her life, and she carries out this duty with unwavering dedication. Her loyalty to Ibuki becomes the driving force behind her actions, and she shows no fear of death, having fully accepted the brief and brutal nature of her existence as a Bounded One.
Throughout the story, Eikha is a constant companion to Ibuki and the rest of the Red Dragon Expeditionary Group. Her knowledge and experience are particularly valuable, as she is one of the few survivors of a previous expedition to the Red Dragon's volcano, an event in which all of her other companions and friends were killed. This past trauma adds a layer of depth to her character, as she revisits the site of this tragedy. One of her key relationships is with her bonded monster Val, whom she can command at will. Val serves as a powerful "action pet," and together they form a formidable combat unit, with Val capable of dispatching enemies with a single, devastating attack.
Eikha’s personal development culminates in a tragic and transformative event. In a critical moment, she is chosen by Ibuki to be a sacrifice, a decision that costs her life and leads to her losing her memories. However, this is not her final end. The Red Dragon makes a pact with Ibuki, using all of Val's remaining life energy to resurrect Eikha. She is reborn in a new form that strongly resembles Val. After her revival, she does not have her full memories, but she feels an instinctual urge to find someone, suggesting that the emotional bonds she formed are not completely erased and may yet return.
