Movie
Description
Kakeru Ohzora is an astronomer who appears as a central character in the Sailor Moon S movie. He is a genius scientist with a lifelong passion for space, having developed a deep fascination with the cosmos from a very young age. His expertise is extensive, as he holds degrees in multiple scientific fields, including space aviation, engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, and medicine. Despite his impressive credentials and childhood dream of becoming an astronaut, he is unable to pursue that specific career path due to an underlying heart condition, a secret he keeps from most people. Instead, he works as part of a space development team.

In terms of personality, Kakeru is a romantic and an idealist, driven by a strong sense of wonder that often clashes with the practical views of his colleagues. He firmly believes in the existence of a princess who lives on the Moon, whom he calls Princess Kaguya. This belief, considered unscientific and fanciful by his peers, is a defining part of his character and a source of gentle conflict in his life. He is also kind and compassionate, demonstrated when he risks his own safety to rescue Luna, the talking cat, from being hit by a car. He takes her into his home and nurses her back to health, showing a gentle and caring nature.

Kakeru's primary motivation is his love for astronomy and his romantic quest to prove that his fantasy of a moon princess is real. His role in the story begins when he witnesses a meteorite crashing to Earth. He retrieves a small, beautiful crystal from the impact site, which is actually a fragment of a comet he had discovered and named Princess Snow Kaguya. Unbeknownst to him, this fragment is tied to an evil ice entity, Princess Snow Kaguya, and the crystal begins to slowly drain his life force, causing his health to mysteriously decline.

His most significant relationship is with Himeko Nayotake, his childhood friend and girlfriend. Himeko is a pragmatic and famous astronaut, chosen for a prestigious lunar mission. While she cares for Kakeru, she is unable to accept his fantastical theories and wishes he would abandon his fantasies to pursue a more grounded career. He also forms an important, though one-sided, bond with Luna. After he saves her, Luna stays with him and develops deep feelings for him, watching over him as his health worsens.

Over the course of the story, Kakeru becomes increasingly obsessed with the growing crystal shard as his physical condition deteriorates. His arc reaches a critical point when he collapses, and his heart stops following the defeat of Princess Snow Kaguya. Through the power of the Silver Crystal, Luna is granted her wish to become human. In this form, she appears to him as his imagined Princess Kaguya. She takes him on a vision into space, allowing him to see the Earthrise and the beauty of the moon, thereby fulfilling his lifelong dream. This act restores his will to live and his heart starts again. She encourages him to recover and wait for his true princess on Earth, helping him realize his feelings for Himeko.

Notable abilities possessed by Kakeru are entirely based on his intellect and scientific knowledge rather than any supernatural power. He is a brilliant astronomer and a gifted scientist capable of rocket design from a young age. His ability to identify and investigate the comet fragment drives the plot forward, inadvertently setting the stage for the conflict with Princess Snow Kaguya.
