Description
Kikki Benjamin is the fourth member to join the team of heroines and is the youngest of the group. Her civilian life and role as a fighter are heavily influenced by her genetic infusion, which combines her human DNA with that of a golden lion tamarin, a small monkey species. This animal fusion is reflected in her energetic personality, her physical agility, and her transformed appearance, which includes monkey-like ears and a tail.
Kikki is a hyperactive and mischievous child who approaches most situations with a sense of fun and a desire for play. She loves performing acrobatics and putting on shows, a skill she uses both as a street performer to help support her family and later as a waitress at the Cafe Mew Mew, where her antics often result in broken dishes. Her youthful nature can make her seem naive or immature to the other members, but it also allows her to see the world in simple terms and find straightforward solutions to problems.
Despite her cheerful and childish exterior, Kikki carries a significant amount of responsibility. Her mother passed away when she was very young, and her father, a master of martial arts, is frequently absent, training in the mountains. This leaves Kikki as the primary caretaker for her five younger siblings, managing the household finances and raising them largely on her own. She deeply misses her mother and tends to avoid talking about her, cherishing the memories she has. Her need to earn money for her family was the reason she initially performed tricks in the park, and she sees her fellow Mew Mews as older sisters, often addressing them with the Japanese term onee-chan.
Kikki is the fourth Mew Mew to be discovered and is called into action when her Mew Mark, a symbol on her forehead, appears. Her primary weapon is a pair of rings, which in some adaptations is depicted as a golden tambourine. Her signature attack is known as Ribbon Pudding Ring Inferno, which unleashes a blast of yellow energy that traps enemies in a substance resembling a gelatin dessert. This attack reflects her signature color, yellow, which is also the primary color of her transformed outfit, a short jumpsuit with leg warmers. Her tamarin DNA grants her superhuman agility, making her the most acrobatic member of the team and allowing her to perform incredible flips and kicks in battle.
One of the most significant relationships in her story is with an alien boy named Tart, who is initially an enemy. Their bond forms unexpectedly when he saves her life, and despite their positions as adversaries, Kikki considers him a friend, giving him the affectionate nickname Taru-Taru. She is reluctant to fight him during the final battle and is deeply saddened when he is hurt, showing that her capacity for friendship and love transcends the conflict around her. Through all her challenges, Kikki remains a spirited and resilient girl, whose childlike wonder and inner strength make her a vital part of the team.
