TV-Series
Description
Ichigo Momomiya, also known as Mew Ichigo, is the main protagonist of her story. She is an ordinary junior high school student who is transformed into a superheroine after her DNA is fused with that of an Iriomote wildcat, an endangered species. She stands about 152 to 159 centimeters tall and has her birthday on March 15. In her everyday life, she has short brownish-red hair usually tied in pigtails and brown eyes, bearing a strong resemblance to her mother. When she transforms into Mew Ichigo, her hair becomes wavy and turns a vivid pink, matching her eyes. In this form, she also sprouts black cat ears and a tail with a red ribbon and gold bell, and wears a pink battle outfit reminiscent of a ballerina’s leotard.

Ichigo’s personality is that of a cheerful, energetic, and friendly girl who genuinely cares for her friends and family. However, she is also somewhat scatterbrained, clumsy, and prone to acting rashly, especially when her emotions run high. Her character embodies many traits typical of a magical girl heroine, including being sweet, caring, and shy around her love interest, Masaya Aoyama. She is also known to be brave and determined, fiercely protecting those close to her and refusing to back down from a fight. A unique aspect of her personality is the influence of her feline DNA, which gives her mannerisms such as craving fish, chasing small moving objects like butterflies, and occasionally adding a cat-like "nya" to the end of her sentences. While she generally hates being used as a tool or treated like an object, she is also a friendly person willing to give second chances.

Ichigo’s primary motivation is initially quite personal: she wants to spend time with and eventually win the affections of Masaya Aoyama, a popular and environmentally-conscious boy from her school. Her first date with him at an exhibition for endangered animals is the scene of the accident that gives her powers. Although she initially wants nothing to do with the Mew Project and wishes to return to her normal life, she gradually accepts her role as a protector of the planet. Her motivation shifts as she comes to realize the importance of her mission, driven by her desire to keep her loved ones safe and defend the Earth from alien threats. This internal conflict between her duty as a hero and her desire for a normal life remains a central part of her journey.

In the story, Ichigo serves as the de facto leader of the Tokyo Mew Mews, a group of five girls whose DNA has been merged with endangered animals. Her role is to bring the team together and lead the fight against the aliens and their monster creations, known as Chimera Animas. She works part-time at the Café Mew Mew, which serves as their headquarters, and is often tasked with finding and recruiting the other Mew Mews. As the leader, she is identifiable as the most powerful member of the team, often delivering the final blow in battles.

Her key relationships are central to the plot. Her most significant relationship is with Masaya Aoyama, her classmate and love interest. She is constantly nervous and flustered around him, and much of her personal conflict involves balancing her secret life as a Mew Mew with her desire to build a relationship with him. She also interacts closely with Ryou Shirogane, one of the creators of the Mew Project and her boss at the café, who is secretly affectionate toward her, though she is largely oblivious to his feelings. On the antagonistic side, she is frequently pursued by Kish, an alien who becomes obsessed with her, much to her dismay as she considers him a nuisance. Among her fellow Mew Mews, she shares a strong bond with each member, having worked to overcome their initial reluctance to join the team and cementing their friendship over countless battles.

Throughout the series, Ichigo undergoes significant character development. She starts as a reluctant hero who just wants to be normal but grows into a responsible and dedicated leader who fully accepts her duties. A major part of her development involves mastering her powers, which includes learning to control her feline instincts. A notable challenge arises as her cat DNA begins to overtake her human DNA; when she becomes overly excited or embarrassed, her cat ears and tail pop out, and if pushed further, she fully transforms into a small black kitten. In the anime, this transformation occurs when she is kissed, and she can only revert to her human form with another kiss. Her romantic relationship with Masaya also develops from a one-sided crush to a mature partnership as they learn each other's secrets and support one another.

As a fighter, Ichigo possesses a range of notable abilities derived from her Iriomote wildcat DNA. She has enhanced agility, strength, and reflexes, allowing her to perform acrobatic feats like jumping between buildings and surviving falls from great heights. She can also communicate with animals. Her primary weapon is the Strawberry Bell, which she uses to perform her signature purification attacks. Her early attack is called Ribbon Strawberry Check, which later upgrades to the more powerful Ribbon Strawberry Surprise. When wielding the more powerful Mew Aqua Rod, she can perform an even stronger attack named Ribbon Aqua Drops, capable of purifying environmental damage and restoring life. Her unique cat transformation, while often played for comedic effect, also becomes a recurring aspect of her powers that she must learn to manage.
