Description
Galia is a character from the 1997 anime film Slayers Great. He is a resident of the town of Stoner, a place famous for its artisans who craft entertainment golems. Within this community, Galia is a renowned and skilled craftsman of classic toy golems, though he is experiencing financial difficulties at the time the story takes place.
Galia is an adult male with purple hair and orange eyes. He is the father of a young girl named Laia Einberg and the father of Huey, who is both his son and his student in the craft of golem-making. The central conflict in his life is a deep creative and philosophical clash with his son, Huey. The two have very opposing ideas about the design and purpose of their golems. Galia adheres to a more traditional and whimsical approach, focusing on creating charming and classic-looking toy golems. In contrast, Huey favors building imposing and more aesthetically idealized figures.
When the sorceresses Lina Inverse and Naga the Serpent arrive in Stoner and rescue Laia, Galia is introduced to them. He promptly develops a liking for Lina, appreciating her unique features, while his son becomes infatuated with Naga's appearance. Because of this, both father and son decide to use the two sorceresses as the models for their respective new golem creations. This decision puts them at the center of a local power struggle between two feuding lords, Haizen and Granion. The lords plan to use a golem tournament to decide control of the town and secretly intend to mass-produce the winning golem design as weapons of war. Galia is employed by Lord Granion to build a golem in Lina's image, while Huey is hired by Lord Haizen to build one modeled after Naga.
Galia's personality is that of a struggling artist who is proud of his craft but faces pressure from both his family conflicts and his financial situation. His motivation is to create golems that are a source of entertainment and which reflect his own artistic vision, rather than tools of destruction. Despite his financial woes, he is not driven by a desire for power or warfare, but by his dedication to his art. His relationship with his daughter Laia appears to be a close one, as she actively works to help mend the rift between him and her brother. His relationship with his son Huey is contentious, defined by rivalry and sabotage, as Huey steals magical clay needed for Galia's golem, forcing Galia to improvise by building his golem around a sleeping Lina to use her magic as a power source.
Over the course of the story, Galia undergoes a significant development. After the chaotic and destructive golem battle between Lina and Naga, he and his son Huey resolve their creative differences. They decide to set aside their rivalry and pursue a new shared vision, creating toys that combine the qualities of being both cute and appealing. This reconciliation marks a shift from their destructive feud to a collaborative and harmonious future for their family business.
In terms of notable abilities, Galia is a master golem craftsman. His skill is such that he is considered famous and legendary within his field. He is capable of constructing complex, remote-controlled golems that can be used for entertainment. However, his specific design aesthetic is for a super-deformed, cute style, as evidenced by the golem he builds of Lina, named Piko-Piko Lina-chan, which has short limbs, and squeaky shoes. This creation, while not suited for combat, becomes a beloved symbol of the town of Stoner after the events of the film.
