Description
Philia Ul Copt is a golden dragon, or Ryuzoku, who appears as a central character in the anime series Slayers Try, where she is an anime-original addition to the cast. She comes from the outside world, the lands beyond the region where the main party lives, and spent her life in a sheltered temple environment before her journey began. At roughly five hundred years old, she is still an adolescent by dragon standards, and she served as a priestess of the first holy order under the Flarelord Vrabazard. As a priestess, she obeyed the orders of the elders at her temple, which left her with a naive and heavily biased view of the world and of her own kind.
Her initial mission is to prevent the resurrection of the evil force known as Dark Star Dugradigdu. To accomplish this, she seeks to assemble a team of powerful warriors and originally approaches Luna Inverse for help, only to be turned down and directed to Luna's younger sister, Lina Inverse. From that point, Filia travels with Lina and her companions as an emissary of the dragon race, acting as a guide for the party during the events of Try.
Filia carries herself with a dignified and proper outward manner, but she is stubborn, tenacious, and very easy to provoke. She is strongly self-righteous at the start of the series, believing firmly in the superiority and righteousness of the golden dragons and in the holy mission given to her by her faith. Much of this attitude stems from her sheltered upbringing rather than genuine malice, and she is also compassionate beneath her pride. Her temper is a defining trait, and when she becomes angry her dragon tail tends to appear, along with a heavy spiked mace that she keeps strapped to her leg and uses freely on those who irritate her. No one irritates her more than the Mazoku Xelloss, whom she despises openly. She habitually calls him namagomi, meaning fresh garbage or raw garbage, and threatens him with her mace even when he merely smiles at her. This hostility is rooted in both the ancient enmity between Mazoku and Ryuzoku and the knowledge that Xelloss is the being who supposedly wiped out most of the golden dragons during the Kouma War.
Her relationship with Xelloss is the most volatile of the series, marked by constant bickering and mutual provocation, yet their many confrontations also create a strange and lasting bond between them. Outside of that dynamic, Filia grows closest to Lina Inverse, and the two become genuine friends even though they frequently irritate each other. Filia disapproves of how easily Lina and the others abandon their responsibilities in favor of meals or chances to make money. She also develops an important connection with Valgarv, the renegade warrior who initially serves as an antagonist. Over the course of her travels, Filia learns unsettling truths about her own people, particularly that the golden dragons massacred the ancient dragons in the past and concealed that history. This discovery shatters her blind faith and forces her to question the righteousness of her race, her temple, and her elders. By the end of Try, she has given up her position as a priestess and is left as the last remaining follower of Flarelord after the rest of her clan is destroyed. She chooses her own path of atonement and new coexistence, becoming the caretaker of Valgarv after he is reborn as a pure ancient dragon, and later runs an antique shop alongside Jillas in the aftermath of the story.

She has mastered transformation magic that lets her appear as a young human woman with blonde hair, though the spell requires concentration, and her tail tends to reappear when she loses focus or becomes emotional. Alongside her magical talents, she is known for her physical blunt-force approach in combat, wielding a large, heavy mace that becomes a recurring part of her personality and her conflicts throughout the series.
