Movie
Description
Garuga, who is later revealed to be the demon Yasha, serves as the primary antagonist of the first Yu Yu Hakusho movie. Initially, he presents himself as a simple henchman and underling to another demon named Koashura. This is a carefully maintained disguise, as his true identity is that of Yasha, a dangerous and wanted criminal in the Spirit World. His plan from the beginning is one of deception and ambition, using Koashura as a pawn to achieve his own goals.

The character is defined by a cunning and treacherous personality. He is a skilled manipulator, successfully fooling his supposed boss into believing he is a loyal servant. The moment the opportunity arises, Yasha discards this pretense without hesitation, betraying Koashura by pushing him from a cliff and leaving him for dead. This act reveals his core motivation: a selfish desire for power. He is not interested in loyalty or shared objectives; his only goal is to obtain the Golden Seal, a powerful artifact that represents the authority of the ruler of the Spirit World.

To achieve this, Yasha orchestrates the kidnapping of Koenma, the son of King Enma, while Koenma is on vacation. Yasha then issues a demand, instructing that the Golden Seal be brought to Magma Valley by sunset in exchange for the captive prince's safe return. This places him in direct opposition to the main protagonist, Yusuke Urameshi, and his friends, who are tasked with rescuing Koenma. His relationship with Koashura is purely exploitative, serving as a means to an end. Once that relationship is no longer useful, he callously destroys it. His interactions with Yusuke are that of a formidable enemy who underestimates his opponent.

In terms of abilities, Yasha possesses a notable and specific power. In both his disguised form as Garuga and his true form as Yasha, he wears a reflector on his chest. This device is capable of deflecting projectile-based attacks, including Yusuke's signature Spirit Gun. This ability forces his opponents to find an alternative strategy, as direct energy attacks are rendered useless. The climax of the story sees Yasha facing Yusuke, who manages to defeat him not by overpowering the reflector, but by using the environment of the Magma Valley to his advantage. Yusuke seals the reflector with the surrounding magma, neutralizing Yasha's primary defense and leading to his downfall.
