Description
Koshi Rikudô is the in-universe representation of the manga author of Excel Saga, inserted as a character within the anime adaptation. He is introduced early in the series, most notably in the first episode, where he is killed by the protagonist Excel under orders from Lord Ilpalazzo. This death is rendered non-permanent when the narrative is reset by a higher force, allowing him to continue appearing throughout the series. He typically opens each episode by giving his approval for the chaos that follows, often seen seated at his drawing desk. This framing device establishes him as a metafictional figure whose presence comments on the relationship between creator and creation.

The character is portrayed as a somewhat detached observer who becomes increasingly argumentative with the anime director, Nabeshin, as the episodes progress. His growing frustration mirrors the tension between the original work and its adaptation. Motivated primarily by his role as the series’ creator, he becomes a target of the organization ACROSS, which sees his removal as a way to halt the story. His notable relationships are with Nabeshin, with whom he frequently clashes, and with Excel and Lord Ilpalazzo, whose assassination plot underscores his narrative significance. Over the course of the series, his direct involvement in the plot deepens, and his confrontations with the director intensify. He does not possess any special abilities, but his status as the author grants him a degree of narrative invincibility, allowing him to survive death and reappear as needed.
