Description
Peorth is a supporting goddess in the anime, including the feature film Ah! My Goddess: The Movie. She is the fourth goddess to appear in the story and is the oldest among the goddesses introduced. She holds the rank of first-class goddess, second category, with an unlimited license, and works for the Earth Assistance Center, an agency that grants wishes and operates as a rival to the Goddess Relief Office, where Belldandy is employed. In addition to her duties as a wish granter, she carries out system administration work connected to Yggdrasil, the heavenly computer system.
In appearance, Peorth has dark reddish-brown hair, deep brown eyes, and diamond-shaped markings on her forehead and cheeks, along with an asymmetric hairstyle that includes a ponytail. Her overall look has been compared to an adult version of Skuld. Her characteristic method of manifestation is through camera lenses.
Her personality is defined by high pride, a strong sense of self-regard, and an eccentric, theatrical manner. She speaks in a refined young-lady style and tries to present herself as noble and elegant, but she is easily carried away and somewhat clumsy, so her grand posturing often gives way to comic situations. She is confident and persistent, especially when she commits to a task. She has a fondness for roses, romance comics, green tea, and Japanese sweets, and her attachment to taiyaki is particularly strong.
Peorth's motivations are rooted in professional pride and a competitive spirit. She once held a grudge against Belldandy over an incident in which her pride was wounded, though the misunderstanding was eventually cleared up. She is also strongly drawn to Keiichi, which fuels a rivalry with Belldandy, and she once pursued him persistently in an effort to grant him a wish, even after he insisted he had none to make.
In Ah! My Goddess: The Movie, Peorth plays an important supporting role during the crisis involving the released god Celestin and the demon Morgan Le Fay. She is the one who alerts Urd that Yggdrasil has been compromised, leading Heaven to seal itself off from Earth and leaving Belldandy unable to receive treatment for the virus placed inside her. Later, during the final confrontation, Peorth takes on a responsible and authoritative role, authorizing the use of the divine spear Gungnir when the goddesses unite to stop Celestin and Morgan from destroying Yggdrasil and the world.
Her key relationships center on the other goddesses. With Belldandy she shares a long acquaintance, and their rivalry is both personal and organizational, reflecting the competition between their respective agencies. After the earlier misunderstanding is resolved, that rivalry settles into a healthier competitive respect. She cooperates with Urd and Skuld when a serious threat demands united action, and her affection for Keiichi adds a lighter, more personal dimension to her connection with the group. Over time, her initial antagonism softens, and her later appearances show her acting as a capable authority figure despite her comic tendencies, even taking Skuld's collection of romance comics with her when she returns to Heaven.
As a first-class goddess, Peorth possesses considerable magical ability that is in principle comparable to Belldandy's. She serves as a wish granter for her agency, holds administrative responsibilities related to Yggdrasil, and commands an angel named Gorgeous Rose, an angelic being whose form appears dressed in roses.
