TV-Series
Description
Akira Ijuuin is a main character from the CLAMP School Detectives series. He is an elementary school student and serves as the treasurer of the elementary division student council at the prestigious CLAMP School. Born on December 24, Akira is known for his cheerful, carefree, and optimistic personality. He is a polite and friendly boy who always tries to see the best in people, though he can sometimes be a little naive and prone to saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. He is very sensitive to conflict, dislikes arguments, and has a tendency to blush or stammer when embarrassed or teased.
Akira leads a double life. During the day, he is a diligent student and member of the CLAMP School Detectives, but at night, he secretly assumes the identity of the mysterious phantom thief known as the Man of 20 Faces, a title he inherited from his father. His primary motivation for becoming a thief is to fulfill the wishes of his two mothers, who are described as beautiful but very childlike and demanding. They request various items, from the mundane to the extravagant, and Akira, being a devoted son, steals them to make them happy. Despite his family's apparent wealth, Akira is also responsible for all the cooking and cleaning at home.
In the story, Akira's role is as a core member of the detective club, helping to solve various mysteries and assist damsels in distress around the campus alongside his friends Nokoru Imonoyama and Suoh Takamura. His personal story arc heavily involves his romance with Utako Ohkawa, the kindergarten student council president. Their relationship begins when a fleeing Akira takes refuge in her room during one of his heists, and they quickly develop a mutual affection. This relationship is a significant part of his development, as his feelings for her are sincere and enduring; it is established that he eventually proposes to her and they marry when he is 22 years old.
Akira's key relationships are central to his character. He is best friends with Nokoru Imonoyama and Suoh Takamura, whom he greatly admires and considers nearly flawless. He is also very close to his two mothers, despite their selfish tendencies, and holds a deep affection for Utako, his future wife. Over the course of the series, Akira shows little change in his fundamental nature, but his commitment to his dual identities—as a helpful student and a gentleman thief—solidifies. He learns to balance his responsibilities to his friends, his family, and his own heart.
Akira possesses several notable abilities. He is a master chef, capable of perfectly recreating any dish after seeing it on television, hearing a description, or tasting it just once. He is also highly athletic, with knowledge of karate and judo, and is a top student in his grade. In his role as the Man of 20 Faces, he is a skilled escape artist and strategist, known for sending warning letters to his victims and still successfully evading capture. His future ambition is to become a pediatrician, following in the footsteps of his uncle.
