TV-Series
Description
Akira Ijuin is one of the three main protagonists and serves as the treasurer of the Elementary Student Council at CLAMP School. During the day, he is an energetic and cheerful fourth-grader known for his optimistic attitude and friendly nature. He has black hair and gray eyes, and typically wears the standard CLAMP school uniform.
His background is marked by an unusual family situation. Akira lives with his two mothers, who are often referred to as Mother A and Mother B. They are identical twins with childlike and selfish personalities, and they are seemingly very wealthy yet unwilling to perform housework, leaving Akira to do all the cooking and cleaning at home. His father was the original phantom thief known as 20 Faces, or the Man of Many Faces, who mysteriously disappeared. Akira has inherited this legacy and, by night, becomes the second 20 Faces. As a phantom thief, he dons a black costume and mask to steal various items, not for personal gain, but specifically to please his two mothers whenever they express a desire for something.
Personality-wise, Akira is bright, enthusiastic, and displays a remarkable optimism in all situations. He is open and honest, often wearing his heart on his sleeve, and tends to tear up at sad stories or blush deeply when embarrassed. Despite his secret life of crime, he is remarkably pure-hearted and innocent, to the point that he still believes in Santa Claus. While he can appear naive or air-headed at times, this is genuine and contrasts with his hidden cunning nature. He is also a loyal friend who looks up to his fellow detectives, Nokoru Imonoyama and Suoh Takamura, regarding them as flawless.
His role within the story is twofold. As a member of the CLAMP School Detectives, he helps solve mysteries and assist damsels in distress around the campus alongside his friends. As the phantom thief 20 Faces, he is one of the most famous thieves in the world, known for sending notification letters to his victims before stealing his target. He is a master of disguise and is highly skilled at thievery, though his dual identity is never discovered by his genius friends on the student council.
Key relationships define much of his character. He shares a close bond with Nokoru Imonoyama, the student council president, and Suoh Takamura, the secretary, considering them his best friends. Akira also develops a budding romance with Utako Ohkawa, a kindergarten student council member. Their relationship begins when he takes refuge in her room while fleeing from the police, and she becomes his first love. In the future, Akira proposes to Utako when he is twenty years old and marries her at the age of twenty-two.
In terms of development, Akira grows from a boy simply fulfilling his mothers' wishes into a young man who pursues his own path. While he continues his duties as a thief and detective, his relationship with Utako matures. He later graduates from CLAMP School's medical university and becomes a pediatrician.
Akira possesses several notable abilities. Despite his young age, he is a supreme chef and master of cooking, capable of recreating any recipe after seeing it on television, hearing a description, or tasting it just once. His culinary skills are said to rival top chefs in the world. He is also very athletic and skilled in martial arts, including karate and judo, which aids him in his escapes as a thief. His fighting style often emphasizes agility and dodging rather than direct confrontation. Additionally, he is a top student in his grade, demonstrating intelligence and academic ability alongside his practical talents.
