Description
Chap Adel is a supporting character in the Earth Federation Forces, known for his service as a mobile suit pilot. He is a veteran of the One Year War, where he served as a member of the famed Immortal 4th Team under the command of South Burning. His comrades in this unit were Alpha A. Bate and Bernard Monsha. Following the war, Adel remained stationed with Bate and Monsha while Burning was transferred to the Torrington Base in Australia. After the theft of the RX-78GP02A Gundam "Physalis" by Zeon remnants, Adel and his two teammates were reassigned to the assault carrier Albion to assist in its recovery, a mission that reunited them with their former commander, Burning. He is of Mexican descent.
In terms of personality, Adel stands out as the most sensible, gentle, and serious member of his small group. In contrast to the abrasive and often womanizing behavior of his comrades Bate and Monsha, Adel is notably less abrasive and more sympathetic. He is portrayed as a caring individual who shows concern for the less experienced pilots on the Albion, such as Kou Uraki and Chuck Keith. While his teammates might mock the younger pilots, Adel is known to tell them to give the rookies a break. In particular, he offers piloting advice and words of encouragement to Chuck Keith, helping to calm the young pilot's nerves during the fear of battle. Despite his seniority and experience, he does not pretend to be superior and is described as an excellent pilot who never boasts about his skills. Unlike his two partners, Adel is a married man with a stable family life and is never depicted as being unfaithful.
Adel's primary motivation is the successful completion of his duties as a Federation soldier. He is a principled individual who will occasionally voice his opinions or criticisms toward the higher-ranked Bate and Monsha when he feels it is necessary, reflecting his grounded and sensible nature. His role in the story is that of a reliable support pilot and a stabilizing influence within the Albion's mobile suit corps. While not a mentor figure like South Burning, he serves as a steady and competent presence among the more volatile personalities of his veteran comrades.
His key relationships are firmly rooted in his long history with the Immortal 4th Team. He shares a deep bond of camaraderie with Bate and Monsha, having served alongside them for years, though he frequently acts as a foil to their rougher tendencies. He holds his former commander, South Burning, in high regard. In relation to the newer pilots, he acts as a supportive senior, offering guidance rather than derision.
Throughout the events of the Delaz Fleet conflict, Adel pilots an RGC-83 GM Cannon II, a mobile suit designed for mid-range fire support. His notable abilities lie in his piloting competence and his composure under fire. He demonstrates situational awareness and tactical sense, such as when he noted that the enemy pilots they faced were of a higher caliber than usual. He actively participates in combat, engaging Zeon forces and providing support for the Albion's main units. Following the conclusion of the conflict and the success of Operation Stardust, Adel, along with most of the crew of the Albion, was incorporated into the Titans, the elite counter-insurgency unit established by the Earth Federation Council.
