Description
Chuck Keith is a 20 year old pilot serving the Earth Federation Forces who plays a supportive role in the conflicts surrounding the Delaz Fleet. A graduate of the Federation military academy, he holds the rank of Ensign and is initially stationed at the Torrington base in Australia as a test pilot. His early duties involve piloting a captured Zeon MS-06F2 Zaku II in mock combat exercises against newer Federation test machines.

Keith has an amiable and friendly personality that makes him well-liked by his peers. He is not particularly assertive and is often prone to nervousness, especially when dealing with higher-ranking officers or individuals with strong personalities. Despite this susceptibility to anxiety, he is not a coward and demonstrates considerable courage in combat situations, resolutely staying with his team even when facing overwhelming odds or legendary enemy pilots.

The central motivation for Chuck Keith throughout the story is loyalty to his comrades and a sense of duty. He is not driven by personal glory or ambition but by a desire to support his friends and fulfill his responsibilities as a Federation officer. This is most clearly seen in his steadfast support of his close friend and fellow ensign, Kou Uraki.

Keith's role in the story begins at the Torrington base, from where he is one of four pilots dispatched in Zaku II units to attempt to recapture the stolen RX-78GP02A Gundam "Physalis." His Zaku is badly damaged in the ensuing battle, losing its head unit. Following this incident, he and Kou Uraki are reassigned to the Federation assault ship Albion. Upon joining the Albion's crew, Keith is reassigned to pilot an RGC-83 GM Cannon II, a mobile suit designed for artillery support. He pilots this unit during the Albion's pursuit of the stolen Gundam across Africa and into space, participating in the Federation's efforts to prevent the Zeon operation known as "Stardust."

His most significant relationships are with Kou Uraki and with Mora Boscht. His friendship with Kou is a cornerstone of his character, providing a constant and loyal presence. During his time on the Albion, Keith becomes the target of affection from Mora, the ship's chief mechanic. This connection develops into a warm and stable romantic relationship between the two. Keith also shares a working relationship with the other pilots on the Albion, including the veteran South Burning, whose leadership he respects.

Keith shows noticeable development from a relatively inexperienced test pilot to a more seasoned combat veteran. Although he never attains the raw skill of pilots like Kou Uraki or Anavel Gato, he gains valuable combat experience during the pursuit of the Delaz Fleet. Following the death of Lieutenant Burning, Keith provides steady emotional support for Kou, helping him maintain focus during the final stages of the conflict. He proves his capability by surviving multiple engagements and successfully performing his duties.

In terms of abilities, Chuck Keith is a competent mobile suit pilot, though his skills are portrayed as more average relative to the elite aces in the series. He is proficient with his assigned units, first the Zaku II and later the GM Cannon II, effectively utilizing the latter's artillery capabilities in a support role. His true strengths lie in his reliability, steady demeanor in a crisis, and his value as a team player. After the conclusion of Operation Stardust, he returns to Earth and is reassigned to Oakley Base in North America, where he continues his service as a pilot, this time operating an MS-14F Gelgoog Marine.
