Description
Gen Inkai is a central figure in the Tenkai Knights narrative, initially appearing as a formidable antagonist before becoming a crucial ally. He is a tall thirteen-year-old boy with sharp red eyes, one of which is often covered by a long fringe of his spiky auburn and brown hair. His signature Earth attire is a high-collared black jacket zipped up to cover his mouth, paired with matching long pants, a belt with a golden-yellow buckle, dull lavender leg warmers, and black slip-on shoes. On the planet Quarton, he transforms into a Tenkai Knight named Dromus, the Black Knight, who bears a visual resemblance to the hero Bravenwolf but wields a power aligned with the element of wind.

Gen’s personality undergoes a significant transformation throughout the story. He is first introduced as calm, cool, collected, and stoic, holding a deep-seated belief that relying on teammates is a sign of weakness, which makes him appear antisocial. This icy demeanor is a direct result of a painful past. It is revealed that he was once a positive and outgoing child, much like the main protagonist Guren. However, following the departure of his mother, his father fell into a deep depression, causing their family to fall apart. This trauma led Gen to shut himself off from the world, dedicating himself solely to study and training in a bid to keep his father happy. This abandonment made him despise trust and companionship, driving him to pursue only personal strength.

Gen’s primary motivation shifts as the story progresses. Initially, he is driven by a desire for power and a rejection of emotional bonds, viewing them as vulnerabilities. He works for the main villain, Vilius, believing he can control a powerful force known as the Tenkai Dragon for his own purposes. However, his motivation changes when Vilius betrays him and steals the Black Dragon Key for himself. Witnessing Guren Nash’s unwavering determination and his refusal to give up on his friends causes Gen to have an epiphany, leading him to reject his former master and embrace a new goal of helping the Tenkai Knights restore peace to Quarton.

In the story, Gen plays the role of a rival and anti-hero before officially joining the main team. He first appears as a new transfer student to the protagonists’ school on Earth, all while opposing them on Quarton as Dromus. He constantly tests the Knights, leaving clues and challenging them in battle to gauge their strength and resolve. After his betrayal by Vilius, he performs a heroic act by helping the Knights defeat the villain and restore normalcy. Following this, he continues to support them from the sidelines until a crucial moment when he unlocks a new power, called Elemental Mode, and officially joins the Tenkai Knights as their fifth member, becoming Dromus Tenkai Whirlwind.

Gen’s most significant relationship is with Guren Nash, whom he initially views as a rival and a foil. Gen often compares them to two sides of the same coin, acknowledging their similarities. Guren’s persistent attempts to befriend him and his belief in the strength of teamwork are the catalysts for Gen’s change of heart. Over time, Gen comes to accept Guren not just as an ally but as a true friend, even engaging in personal conversations and training sessions with him. He also has a key partnership with a character named Beni, who shares a similarly troubled past and acts as his accomplice during his antagonistic phase. While initially standoffish with the other Knights—Ceylan, Toxsa, and Chooki—he eventually accepts them as comrades as well.

A key part of Gen’s development is his gradual loosening of both his physical and emotional armor. He begins the series with his jacket collar perpetually zipped over his mouth and his heart closed off. After joining the Tenkai Knights, he not only lowers his collar but also becomes more open and willing to work as part of a team. His arc is one of healing from a past betrayal and learning that strength can be found in unity, not just in solitude.

Gen possesses several notable abilities. He is a highly skilled martial artist, holding a first-degree black belt master ranking, and incorporates rigorous physical training into his regimen. He also has a tactical mind, proving himself to be an excellent strategist. As a Tenkai Knight, his transformed state, the Black Knight, specializes in wielding double-edged swords and commands the power of wind. After unlocking his Elemental Mode, his power is fully realized as the Storm Black Knight, solidifying his place as a powerful and essential member of the team.
