Description
Ken-Ohki is a white cabbit, a fictional hybrid creature that is half-cat and half-rabbit, who appears in the anime series Tenchi Universe as the pet and partner of the bounty hunter Nagi. Introduced in the tenth episode of the series, Ken-Ohki serves as Nagi's loyal companion and primary means of space transportation. He shares a strong physical resemblance to the series other notable cabbit, Ryo-Ohki, though he is distinguished by having a blue collar around his neck and a yellow diamond-shaped jewel on his forehead.

As a cabbit, Ken-Ohki possesses several remarkable abilities. Like Ryo-Ohki, he has the power to transform from his small, animal-like form into a fully functional space battleship, though the configuration and color of his ship form are slightly different. In his smaller form, he communicates through cat-like meows and displays a particular fondness for carrots, consuming them eagerly whenever possible. Despite being used by Nagi for bounty hunting and combat situations, Ken-Ohki is portrayed as intelligent, caring, and a perfect gentleman, known for his polite and respectful demeanor. One notable demonstration of his considerate nature is when he saves the last carrot for Ryo-Ohki rather than eating it himself.

Ken-Ohki is defined significantly by his relationship with Ryo-Ohki, the cabbit belonging to Ryoko, Nagis arch-rival. From their very first meeting, the two cabbits display an immediate and strong affection for one another, a development that surprises their owners and also reveals that Ryo-Ohki is female. Their bond deepens throughout the series, with the pair going on a date together on a beach in a later episode. This romantic connection between Ken-Ohki and Ryo-Ohki creates a central complication in the story, as it frequently interferes with Nagis obsessive quest to capture or defeat Ryoko, as the two cabbits refuse to fight each other. For example, Ryo-Ohki directly disobeys Ryokos orders to attack because she does not want to hurt Ken-Ohki, and Ken-Ohki similarly stands down when Nagi orders him to finish off Ryoko.

Ken-Ohkis role in the story extends beyond being merely Nagis pet. His love for Ryo-Ohki ultimately proves crucial to the plot, as it helps to save Nagi from being killed by Ryoko and leads Ken-Ohki to convince Nagi to assist Tenchi and the others in a key confrontation. While he is generally obedient to his owner, his loyalty is tempered by his affection for Ryo-Ohki, and he will act to protect her if she is in danger. The name Ken-Ohki carries thematic meaning, translating roughly to Emperor of Good Spirits, which stands as an intentional contrast to Ryo-Ohkis name, meaning Emperor of Bad Spirits. Within the Tenchi Universe continuity, he stands as a notable example of a cabbit that develops its own independent relationships and motivations outside the simple master-servant dynamic.
