Description
Makio Kidouin is the female protagonist of Lance N Masques. She is a six-year-old girl from a prominent family and lives alone in a large mansion after her mother died and her father became absent from her life. Youtarou Hanabusa watches over her. Makio has long, light olive hair and red eyes. She loves the idea of heroes who fight for justice and refuse to bow to anyone. For a time, she wanted to become a hero herself and trained every day in hopes of achieving that goal. One day, while training, she fell, and Youtarou saved her while wearing a disguise, adopting the identity of Knight Lancer. From that moment, Makio deeply adores Knight Lancer, but she does not realize that the same person who saved her is the supposedly pathetic Youtarou.
Makio is a kind and resilient young girl. She consistently tries to stay focused and positive even during difficult times, and she does not want her friends to see her unhappy. She cares deeply about those close to her and is not ashamed to be vulnerable in front of Yotaro, though she often acts serious toward him. She is brave, confident, and has a strong sense of justice. Despite her young age, she is intelligent and perceptive, able to pick up on subtle clues and think quickly under pressure. She is also determined and loyal, always willing to support her friends when they need help.
Her primary motivation shifts over the course of the story. Initially, she aspires to be a hero herself. After being saved by Knight Lancer, she realizes that rather than becoming a hero, she can instead strive to become a great lady whom Knight Lancer can be proud to protect. This decision reflects her admiration for the knight and her desire to be worthy of his protection. She gradually accepts the role of a noble and supportive figure rather than a direct combatant.
In the story, Makio serves as the female protagonist and the catalyst for many of Youtarou’s actions. Her love for heroes and her belief in justice drive the plot forward and give emotional weight to Youtarou’s secret identity. She also forges key relationships with the other characters, especially Youtarou, whose feelings of inadequacy are contrasted with her unwavering faith in Knight Lancer. In one episode, she is nearly sent abroad but, with Knight Lancer’s intervention, decides to remain and dedicate herself to becoming a proper lady. She later creates a knight club with an older sister she knew from her childhood, further developing her connections.
As for abilities, Makio trained in swordsmanship during her earlier attempts to become a hero, but she is not a highly skilled fighter. Her true strengths lie in her courage, positivity, and determination. She does not engage in direct combat but supports the knights emotionally and morally. Throughout the series, she matures from an aspiring young hero into a composed young lady who understands her own worth and place in the lives of those around her.
