TV-Series
Description
Miyako Shinomiya is a supporting character in the series, having been a D, or a human with dragon-like abilities, who was student number four of the Brynhildr Class at Midgard Academy. She is the younger sister of Haruka Shinomiya and was the best friend of Mitsuki Mononobe. Described by Mitsuki as a Yamato Nadeshiko type, Miyako had an appearance similar to her sister’s. She was portrayed as cheerful, lively, and straightforward, but her one flaw was that she always put her friends above herself, which sometimes led to errors in judgment.

Her background as a student placed her in a position of responsibility; she served as the vice president of the student council at Midgard and took her duties seriously. She was known as a diligent and determined student with a strong sense of justice, always ready to help others. In terms of personality, Miyako was calm and collected, often thinking before acting and remaining rational. However, she could become emotional when it came to her friends and loved ones, showing a caring and protective side.

Miyako’s motivation stemmed from her bonds with those close to her, particularly her desire to protect her friends and fulfill her role as a D. These bonds were central to her actions. Her role in the story is primarily as a tragic figure from the past. Two years before the main events, during an attack by a dragon known as the Purple Kraken on Midgard, Miyako was targeted by the dragon, causing her dragon mark to change color. She subsequently transformed into a Kraken herself. In the ensuing battle, she was shot down by her own best friend, Mitsuki, who was forced to kill her. This event serves as a significant emotional catalyst, deeply affecting Mitsuki and influencing the narrative’s themes of loss and sacrifice.

Her key relationships are with Haruka Shinomiya, her older sister, and Mitsuki Mononobe, her best friend. The closeness of her friendship with Mitsuki makes the tragedy of her death especially poignant. As a D, Miyako possessed the ability to manipulate fire, which she often used in combat, and she was also skilled in hand-to-hand fighting. Her dragon power ultimately led to her transformation into a Kraken, marking the end of her development as a character, as her story is told only through flashbacks and the memories of those who knew her.
