Description
Clamp is a character who appears in the Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin OVA series and its source manga, as well as the original 1979 Mobile Suit Gundam television series. Within the timeline of The Origin, Clamp is first introduced as a civilian working as a bartender at a club called Club Eden in the Autonomous Republic of Munzo. Before this, he was a member of the Munzo Defense Force, but he chose to resign from his military post due to a strong personal aversion to being subordinate to the Earth Federation Forces. Despite leaving active service, he maintained a deep and lasting respect for his former superior officer in the defense force, Ramba Ral.
Following the outbreak of the One Year War, Clamp returns to military duty, serving the Principality of Zeon with the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade or Lieutenant. He rejoins Ramba Ral's squadron, acting as Ramba Ral's reliable right-hand man and the unit's primary tactician. In this role, he is responsible for providing strategic support and covering Ramba Ral during combat operations when Ral personally engages the enemy. One of his key contributions to the squadron's mission is successfully locating the Earth Federation vessel White Base, enabling Ramba Ral's team to initiate their campaign against the ship. His personality is defined by his sense of duty and loyalty to Ramba Ral, having been drawn back into the conflict out of this longstanding allegiance.
Clamp's role in the story is that of a supporting antagonist in the conflict between the Zeon forces and the White Base crew. He is an active participant in Ramba Ral's operation to avenge the death of Garma Zabi by destroying the Federation mobile suit carrier.
