Description
Nene is the devoted wife of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and a skilled ninja who fights alongside her husband and his retainers. She first appears in the narrative during the Oda chapter, supporting Hideyoshi as he rises from a lowly retainer to a national unifier. Her background establishes her as a woman of humble origins who becomes the matriarchal figure of the Toyotomi clan. She is cheerful, warm, and exceptionally caring, often treating Hideyoshi’s retainers such as Mitsunari Ishida, Kiyomasa Kato, and Masanori Fukushima as her own children. This motherly nature extends to all those under her husband’s command, and she is known for scolding or disciplining anyone who misbehaves with a firm but loving hand. Her primary motivation is to support Hideyoshi’s ambition and protect the unity of his forces, which she does both through domestic care and active combat. She takes to the battlefield using her ninjutsu abilities, employing twin blades and a giant shuriken that can split into smaller projectiles. Her fighting style is swift and agile, allowing her to move quickly and strike with rapid combos, and she can create clones of herself to augment her attacks. Nene serves as a stabilizing influence on the Toyotomi faction, mediating conflicts and providing emotional support. Her relationship with Hideyoshi is central; she remains loyal despite his infidelities, and her letters and advice often guide him through political and military decisions. She also holds a special bond with Mitsunari, being one of the few people he treats with genuine respect and openness. Throughout the story, Nene evolves from a supportive spouse into a formidable warrior in her own right, taking on dangerous missions such as clearing sea routes for the Odawara campaign. Her development is marked by her growing independence and her willingness to fight directly for the sake of those she loves, all while maintaining her role as the beloved mother of the Toyotomi family.
