Description
Mayu Arita is a young student who appears in the anime Death Parade. She is a devoted fan of the idol group C.H.A., and her enthusiasm for the group is a defining aspect of her personality. She is described as a fashionable girl with brown eyes and a small mole near her lips, and she is known for wearing a lot of makeup and painting her nails pink. Her demeanor is generally cheerful and carefree, and she is also something of a klutz. This lighthearted and somewhat clumsy nature carries over into her interactions in the afterlife.
Mayu's death was a sudden and mundane freak accident: while entering a bath, she slipped on a bar of soap, hit her head, and died instantly. Upon arriving in the afterlife, she is sent to the Viginti realm, which is overseen by the arbiter Ginti. There, she is reunited with Harada, a member of the idol group she admires. The two are made to participate in a deadly game of Twister, which serves as the mechanism for their judgment. Throughout the game, Mayu learns the truth of her own death and faces the high-stakes trial that will decide the fate of her soul.
Mayu's key relationship is with Harada, the idol she admires. Their shared experience in Viginti brings them together, and after the game concludes, both give a rousing performance for the arbiters. While Harada passes on to whatever fate awaits him, Mayu remains in Viginti, lingering in the realm. It is suggested that she may eventually become an arbiter herself, a development that greatly irritates Ginti. This lingering status represents a significant shift from her initial role as a judged soul to a potential permanent fixture within the arbitration system. Her motivations are largely driven by her attachment to Harada and her desire to remain in the space where she can still feel connected to the world she loved. In the end, Ginti casts both Mayu and Harada into the void, concluding her story. Mayu does not display any supernatural abilities; her role is defined by her human emotions, her fan devotion, and her accidental death, which contrasts sharply with the complex and often dark nature of the judgments taking place around her.
