TV-Series
Description
Eriri Spencer Sawamura is a central character in the story, serving as the primary illustrator for the doujin game project. She is a student at Toyogasaki Academy, recognized as one of the school's most beautiful and popular girls, alongside her peer and rival, Utaha Kasumigaoka. Physically, Eriri is petite with a slim build, fair skin, and is of mixed heritage: her father is a British diplomat and her mother is Japanese. This background gives her distinctive long blonde hair, typically tied in twin tails with blue ribbons, and light blue eyes. To maintain her public image, she wears contact lenses at school; however, she is very nearsighted and switches to glasses when working at home.
Her public persona is that of a refined, graceful, and talented young lady, a facade that has earned her admiration from much of the student body and the title of ace of the art club. This polished exterior is a sharp contrast to her true self. In private, Eriri is an outspoken, passionate, and deeply committed otaku. She sheds her elegant image for the comfort of a worn-out tracksuit, often becoming a disheveled, deadline-chasing creator. Her personality is a classic tsundere archetype; she is proud, easily flustered, and often reacts with feigned aggression or blushes heavily when her true feelings for her childhood friend, Tomoya Aki, are exposed. This internal conflict between her public perfection and private passion is a defining aspect of her character.
Eriri has known Tomoya since they were young, and it was his enthusiasm that introduced her to anime and gal-games, forming a deep, shared history. However, a traumatic incident in elementary school where their shared otaku hobbies led to bullying caused Eriri to hide her interests, creating a rift between them. For years afterward, they maintained a distant, almost cold war-like relationship until Tomoya recruited her for his game project.
Her primary motivation throughout the story is reconciling her two conflicting desires: her love for Tomoya and her need to grow as an artist. She joins his circle, Blessing Software, as the character designer and illustrator, driven by a chance to reconnect with him and fulfill a childhood dream of working together. Yet, she is also fiercely ambitious. When the opportunity arises to work under the demanding and highly skilled producer Akane Kosaka, Eriri makes the painful decision to leave Blessing Software. She believes that Tomoya’s kind, supportive environment cannot push her to improve in the way that Akane’s harsh, critical mentorship can. This choice reflects her ultimate commitment to her craft, even at the cost of her personal relationships.
Her key relationships are complex and drive much of the story's drama. Her dynamic with Tomoya is the most central, characterized by unresolved romantic tension, mutual respect for each other's otaku passions, and the lingering hurt of their past estrangement. Her rivalry with Utaha Kasumigaoka, the group's writer, is a constant source of comedic friction; they frequently insult each other, particularly about Eriri’s lack of mature figure, but share a mutual professional respect and an unspoken understanding that often leaves Tomoya bewildered. Her relationship with the protagonist, Megumi Kato, evolves from initial vague jealousy to a genuine, trusting friendship, with Eriri eventually becoming one of the few characters to address Megumi by her first name. She also has a competitive relationship with fellow artist, the younger Izumi Hashima, seeing her as a threat to her position as Tomoya's primary creative partner. Her otaku nature is directly inherited from her parents, a fujoshi mother and an otaku father, who are supportive of and complicit in her secret doujin career.
As an artist, Eriri's abilities are prodigious. Secretly operating under the pen name Eri Kashiwagi, she is a highly successful creator of erotic doujinshi for her circle, Egoistic Lily. Her skills extend beyond fan works; she is the star of the school art club, having won competitions since her first year. When in a state of intense focus, she is capable of producing work at an incredible speed and quality, a state often described as being possessed by a demon. While naturally talented, her growth is depicted as coming from immense effort and a willingness to suffer for her art. Her development sees her moving from a secretive hobbyist to a professional who, after her time with Akane’s group, achieves significant technical breakthroughs, establishing her as a formidable creator in her own right who can stand on equal footing with her peers. Despite the emotional turmoil she experiences, the story concludes with a reconciled future where she has become the lead illustrator for the professional company founded by Tomoya and Megumi, still working alongside Utaha.
