Description
Nashiro Yasuhisa is a supporting character in the anime Tokyo Ghoul Root A, known also by the alias Shiro. She is an artificial one-eyed ghoul, having been transformed from a human through experimental surgery performed by Dr. Akihiro Kanou. This procedure involved the transplantation of a kakuhou and organs taken from the ghoul Rize Kamishiro, granting her a ghoul's powers and physiology. Nashiro is the twin sister of Kurona Yasuhisa, known as Kuro, and the pair are nearly identical in appearance. Their background is marked by tragedy: they witnessed the murder of their parents by ghouls during their childhood, an event that left a deep psychological scar. Following this, they were taken in by the trading company Sphinx but were eventually subjected to Kanou's experiments, becoming half-ghoul subjects.

Nashiro's personality is initially characterized by a cold, remorseless, and highly aggressive demeanor when confronting enemies. She and her sister act as efficient enforcers, showing little hesitation or empathy toward their targets. However, beneath this hardened exterior, Nashiro exhibits a strong emotional bond with her sister Kurona, and her primary motivation is to protect her and remain by her side. This deep loyalty serves as a driving force for many of her actions. Over the course of her appearances, she reveals a capacity for emotional vulnerability and compassion, suggesting a more complex inner world than her initial brutality might indicate.

In the story, Nashiro and Kurona are introduced as obstacles during Ken Kaneki's pursuit of the ghoul known as Big Madam. They serve as agents of Dr. Kanou, tasked with interfering in Kaneki's mission. Later, during the Aogiri Tree's raid on the ghoul prison Cochlea, the twin sisters engage the CCG investigator Juzo Suzuya in combat. Their coordinated fighting style and combined strength prove formidable, but they are ultimately overpowered. Nashiro suffers fatal wounds in this battle and is callously abandoned by Dr. Kanou, who leaves her to die.

Her key relationship is with her twin sister Kurona, with whom she shares an almost symbiotic partnership. They fight together seamlessly, often using their synchronized attacks to overwhelm opponents. Their bond is central to Nashiro's identity and actions. She also has indirect connections to Ken Kaneki, as a fellow artificial one-eyed ghoul created by the same doctor, and to Juzo Suzuya, whom they once knew from a shared time in a CCG orphanage, adding a layer of tragic irony to their conflict.

Nashiro's notable abilities stem from her ghoul physiology. She possesses a rinkaku-type kagune, which manifests as powerful tentacle-like appendages that can be used for both offense and defense. Her skills are enhanced by her ability to coordinate with her sister, making them a highly effective duo. Her kakugan, the red eye indicative of a ghoul's active state, appears in her right eye. Physically, she is agile and strong, capable of keeping pace with experienced fighters.

Development for Nashiro is limited within the events of the anime, but her trajectory moves from a seemingly simple, ruthless killer to a more layered figure whose protective love for her sister and sad fate reveal the tragedy of her existence as a discarded experiment.
