Description
Mamoru Ouda is a supporting character who, like Shinichi Izumi, is a human host whose brain remained intact after being invaded by a Parasite. In his case, the Parasite lodged in the lower part of his head, specifically in the area around his jaw. This Parasite later becomes known as Jaw. Ouda works as a hotel employee and is physically described as tall with an average build, slightly overweight, with neatly combed black hair and brown eyes.
Ouda’s personality contrasts sharply with his Parasite’s. He is normally peaceful, easygoing, and mild-mannered, but he becomes nervous under pressure and cries easily. His Parasite, Jaw, is brash, crude, and possesses a sense of humor. It frequently takes control of Ouda’s mouth, distorting it into odd shapes and forcing him to say strange or inappropriate things. Despite this, Ouda and Jaw coexist without Ouda losing his identity. Ouda’s primary motivation is to avoid Parasites and live a quiet life, but he is drawn into conflict when his boss, Kuramori, is discovered to be a Parasite stalking Shinichi. Ouda then agrees to help Shinichi and Migi capture and interrogate Kuramori.
Ouda’s key relationship is with Shinichi Izumi and Migi. The two pairs befriend each other, sharing the unique experience of being hybrid humans. Ouda provides assistance when needed, though he prefers to avoid direct confrontation. His relationship with Jaw is one of reluctant cooperation; Jaw’s outspokenness often embarrasses Ouda, but they function as a team.
In terms of development, Ouda remains a secondary figure who does not undergo a major personal arc. He supports Shinichi during a critical phase of the story, but after the Kuramori incident, he largely fades from the narrative. His most notable ability is the defensive advantage provided by Jaw’s location: because the Parasite resides in the lower part of his head, it can extend downward into his chest, protecting his heart—a common target in Parasite battles. However, Ouda’s slight overweight build and the jaw-area location mean he tires quickly during fights and becomes out of breath. Jaw itself is capable of combat, but Ouda’s timid nature limits their offensive engagements. Overall, Ouda represents a rare case of a peaceful hybrid who chooses to avoid the larger Parasite conflict.
