Description
Kazuya Shiki is a student from Niigata Prefecture attending Toritsu Academy, where he is a member of the Gunpla Battle team known as SD-R. He is the youngest child of the three Shiki triplets, with his older brothers being Toshiya and Nobuya Shiki. Among the three brothers, Kazuya is distinguished by his calm and collected demeanor, as well as his aptitude for analyzing information during battles. He can be visually identified from his siblings by his unique hairstyle, which features forked bangs that cover his forehead.
Within the narrative, Kazuya serves as an opponent for the protagonist team, Try Fighters. Team SD-R faces the Try Fighters in the second round of the Gunpla Battle Japanese Championship. In this tournament setting, teams consist of three members, and Kazuya fights alongside his brothers in a highly coordinated unit. His role is intrinsically linked to his brothers, as their fighting style relies heavily on teamwork, tactics, and traps rather than individual strength alone.
Kazuya pilots the SDG-R3 Giracanon Gundam, a Gunpla that shares a common frame with his brothers' units, the Snibal Gundam and Dragonagel Gundam. The Giracanon Gundam is equipped with standard armaments including a rifle that also functions as a bazooka, along with optional weapons such as a claw, spike, and shield. The claw mounted on his unit contains an advanced version of the Absorb System, a technology that not only absorbs enemy beam attacks but also continuously draws in ambient Plavsky Particles from the battlefield. This suction ability is powerful enough to immobilize enemy units within its effective range.
The defining characteristic of the Shiki brothers' team is their trump card, which involves combining their three separate Gunpla into a massive, dragon-like mobile armor known as the Snibal-Drago-Gira. This combination requires a substantial amount of Plavsky Particles, which are gathered using the Absorb System integrated into Kazuya's claw weapon. The absorbed particles are then used both to form the giant machine and to power up its attacks.
The Shiki brothers share a close bond, with their coordinated efforts representing the culmination of Toshiya's designs and strategies. There is an underlying context to their participation in the tournament, as it is revealed that their eldest brother, Toshiya, was unable to enroll in the prestigious Gunpla Academy, adding a layer of motivation tied to proving their capabilities. Despite their strategic planning and the impressive firepower of their combined form, Team SD-R is ultimately defeated by the Try Fighters in the championship match. Kazuya Shiki, while not a central character, exemplifies the series emphasis on team dynamics, specialized Gunpla mechanics, and the tactical depth of competitive battles. His individual development is less emphasized than his function as a component of the triplets' collective fighting unit.
