Description
Hyrein is a Neighbor from the planet Aftokrator, where he serves as the head of House Veltiston, one of the four noble families that rule this superpower. His position grants him immense political and military authority, and he commands the Aftokrator expedition force that launches a large-scale invasion of Mikado City.
In terms of appearance, Hyrein is a tall figure with long, messy blue hair and neat blue eyes. Like other Aftokrator Neighbors, he possesses two horns on his head, which are actually Trion Receptors that have enhanced his trion reserves over the years. The author has noted that his design was conceived with the image of a dragon in mind.
Hyrein is characterized by a careful and calculating personality, demonstrating exceptional skill as a strategist. He is deeply committed to achieving his group's objectives, yet he harbors a notable ethical compass. Unlike many invaders, he prefers tactics that divide enemy forces and focuses on capturing C-rank agents, showing a reluctance to inflict unnecessary harm. Despite his commanding presence, he is described as a pacifist at heart and openly fears Mira due to her more sadistic personality. His personal preferences include capable pawns, diversionary tactics, his family, and a peaceful life, which contrasts sharply with his role as a military leader.
Within the narrative of the large-scale invasion, Hyrein acts primarily as the commander, concocting strategies and directing his subordinates from behind the scenes. He only enters the battlefield personally when the situation calls for it, such as when his forces struggle to capture Chika Amatori, whom he refers to as the Golden Chick due to her immense trion levels. His strategic acumen is highlighted by his successful orchestration of the conquest of Galopoula as a vassal country. During the invasion of Mikado City, he masterfully manipulates the flow of battle, with Border unable to discern his true objectives for most of the conflict. Although his schemes are ultimately thwarted partly due to Jin's precognitive abilities, Hyrein is able to deduce the existence of such a manipulator on the opposing side. According to Jin, the final outcome of the attack still represented the second or third best scenario he had foreseen, resulting in the kidnapping of several C-rank agents.
Hyrein maintains several key relationships within his team. He appears to care about the opinion of Lamvanein, who is suggested to be his brother. His relationship with Mira is complex; while they work together effectively and he holds her in high esteem, trusting her judgment as his operator, his fear of her cruel personality is a defining dynamic of their interaction. The narrative also notes that political alliances between their families dictate that either he or Lamvanein is slated to marry Mira. He is also the commander of notable subordinates such as the elderly but powerful Viza and the rebellious Hyuse.
In terms of development, Hyrein is a character who remains largely consistent in his role as a master planner. His background reveals the political pressures of Aftokrator; with the issue of their dying god, he was tasked with raiding Earth to find a suitable candidate to serve as a replacement. When this primary objective of capturing Chika failed, he had already prepared a backup political solution, showcasing his ability to manage the precarious power balance of his home planet. His tactical development is implied through his past successes, such as the annexation of Galopoula, and his ability to adapt during the Earth invasion, even when facing unexpected resistance. Notably, he is one of the few characters able to hold his own against Miwa, whose Trigger possesses a unique resistance to Hyrein's abilities.
Hyrein wields a formidable Black Trigger known as Alektor. This trigger allows him to generate animal-shaped bullets from an ovoid core hovering above his hand. Upon contact with a trion construct, these bullets destabilize it and, if sufficient damage is inflicted, transform the target into an indestructible trion cube. This ability effectively neutralizes opponents without allowing them to counterattack, as their own Triggers are also cubified. Hyrein demonstrates masterful control over Alektor, choosing the appropriate type of bullet for any situation and controlling their complex movements, even when using multiple types simultaneously. Beyond his Black Trigger, Hyrein benefits from his Trion Receptors, which grant him vast trion reserves, allowing him to use Alektor for extended periods. He is also protected by an armored cape while in his trion body, which can deflect standard gunner bullets and absorb the effects of specialized ammunition like Lead Bullet, shedding damaged parts and regenerating them quickly. Parameters from official data list Hyrein with exceptionally high trion levels, solid attack and defense stats, and notable command and special tactics scores, reflecting his role as a powerful front-line commander rather than a purely physical brawler.
