Description
Adolf Reinhardt is a German officer and a key member of the Annex I project, recognized as the second most powerful fighter on the expedition with a Mars ranking of number two. At twenty-seven years old, he stands at one hundred eighty centimeters and weighs eighty-eight kilograms, with short blonde hair and light green eyes. His body bears extensive burns and scars from his past, including marks on his mouth that he habitually conceals beneath his jacket's high collar.

Reinhardt's past is defined by hardship and sacrifice. At the age of seven, he volunteered alongside his parents for the BUGS 2 project. After his parents died from the surgery, he became an orphan and was taken into military custody, where he served as an experimental subject for the M.O. Operation. He specifically volunteered to be a test subject to spare other children from the same suffering, a decision that demonstrated his profound selflessness from a very young age. The data from his own surgery was used to develop the M.O. Operation techniques for others. Despite his status as a test subject, he was able to attend school, though he lived under strict surveillance, confidentiality agreements, and constant health inspections.

The operations and experiments left Reinhardt with a lonely and isolated existence. He learned to project a confident and intimidating demeanor to mask his loneliness, hiding the physical scars that he felt made him a burden to others. His life changed when he met a woman named Rosa, who became the first person to make him feel like a normal human being. They married and had a son, and for a time, he experienced happiness. However, this happiness proved fleeting when he discovered that Rosa had been unfaithful and that his son was likely not his biological child. Despite the profound hurt this caused him, his kind and caring nature prevented him from seeking a divorce, as he could not bear to cause her pain. This personal turmoil is a heavy burden he carries, and his participation in the dangerous Annex I mission serves as an escape from the disappointments of his life on Earth.

As a captain leading a squad of European soldiers, Reinhardt is fiercely protective of those under his command. His role in the story is that of a powerful frontline combatant who is willing to sacrifice everything for his team. His most significant relationship is with his subordinate, Eva, whom he protects at the cost of his own life. He also shares a bond with Isabella R. Leon, another powerful fighter in his squad, whose death at the hands of a Terraformar fuels his determination. His backstory also connects him to Komachi Shokichi, as Reinhardt reportedly never drank alcohol before meeting him.

Reinhardt's abilities stem from the Mosaic Organ operation, which granted him the powers of an electric eel, or Electrophorus electricus. This transformation converts all the muscles in his body into electricity-generating organs, allowing him to manipulate electromagnetism and sense the electromagnetic waves of living creatures. In his transformed state, his strength and durability are vastly enhanced. His primary weapons are specialized throwing knives named Rain Hard, which he uses to conduct his electricity. By impaling an enemy with a knife, he creates a conductive path, allowing him to unleash powerful electric shocks that can cook them from the inside out. He can also generate an electromagnetic barrier capable of deflecting bullets and other projectiles.

Reinhardt's body contains further modifications from his time as a German experiment. An automated external defibrillator is installed in his heart to force it to restart if it stops beating. Unbeknownst to him, a powerful explosive device was also implanted in his body, set to detonate upon his death. On Mars, after a prolonged and desperate battle against a horde of Terraformars, he is critically wounded while shielding Eva from a barrage of thrown rocks. Shortly after, the implanted explosive detonates, seemingly killing him and everyone in the immediate vicinity. Despite his tragic end, Reinhardt is remembered as a complex individual whose cool and menacing exterior hid a deeply kind and caring heart, defined by his willingness to protect others and his endurance of profound personal suffering.
