TV-Series
Description
Kenji Matsudaira is the best friend of the protagonist, Koutarou Satomi, and serves as the most prominent normal human character within the cast of Invaders of the Rokujyoma!?. He has known Koutarou since they attended elementary school together, and they also played on the same baseball club during middle school. His close friendship with Koutarou is characterized by constant, friendly banter and a willingness to go out of his way for him, such as making a longer trip to Corona House just to ensure they walk to school together.
In terms of personality, Kenji is portrayed as handsome and popular, carrying a reputation as a ladykiller and a charmer who is frequently cast in romantic leads for the high school drama club. Despite his social success, he is described as a man of science who holds a notable fear of ghosts. He lives with his family, which includes his younger sister, Kotori, towards whom he exhibits a protective big brother instinct, oscillating between possessiveness and concern for her shy nature.
His primary role in the story is that of an unwitting muggle friend, as he remains completely unaware of the supernatural conflicts involving invaders, ghosts, and underground civilizations that occur at Koutarou's residence, Corona House. While he realizes that Koutarou is growing close to the girls living in room 106, he knows nothing of the battles and secrets behind those relationships. This changes dramatically late in the series, when he and his sister become locked into the loop of events, witnessing Koutarou single-handedly confront armed attackers and use abilities far beyond those of a normal human.
Regarding his relationships, Kenji often finds himself in the ironic position of being attracted to women who ultimately show interest in Koutarou instead. He is also responsible for indirectly pushing Koutarou towards certain situations, such as wanting him to take responsibility for his sister Kotori. A notable ability, if it can be called one, is his social magnetism and good looks, which are frequently mentioned as being on a professional actor's level, though he has no combat or supernatural skills.
