Description
In the world of Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya, Irisviel von Einzbern is the mother of Illyasviel von Einzbern and the adoptive mother of Shirou Emiya. Happily married to Kiritsugu Emiya, she lives a peaceful life that stands in stark contrast to the tragic fate of her counterpart in other timelines. While she and her husband are frequently traveling abroad, she has left the care of their children to their homunculus maids, Leysritt and Sella. Her backstory in this continuity reveals a decisive break from her family's dark history. In the events of 2wei!, she explains to her daughters that a ritual known as the Holy Grail Wars once took place in Fuyuki City, and that Illya was originally created to serve as the Holy Grail for the Fourth War. Kiritsugu gave Irisviel a choice: to do nothing or to leave the Einzbern family and work to stop the ritual. They chose the latter, leading to the fall of the Einzberns and securing a normal life for their family.

Irisviel shares the core traits of her original counterpart but is notably less serious, often appearing carefree and somewhat ditzy. She is almost always shown with a warm smile on her face, regardless of the situation, which can range from introducing herself to playfully punishing her children. Despite her cheerful and teasing demeanor, she possesses a sharp maternal intuition and a deep well of wisdom that surfaces when serious matters arise. She is very close to Illya and is acutely aware of the immense power sealed inside her daughter. This awareness extends to Illya's personal feelings; she knows about her daughter's crush on Shirou and teases her about it whenever possible. Irisviel also takes cunning pleasure in teasing her adopted son, Shirou. She frequently jokes about the group of girls who have feelings for him, which she calls his harem, and has even gone so far as to take smuggled pictures of him to use as rewards for others, like Rin and Luvia.

Irisviel plays a crucial and active role in the story, primarily in 2wei!. Although often overseas with Kiritsugu, she has a powerful mother's intuition and connection to Illya that brings her home during critical moments. She is more present in the narrative than her husband. When she first confronts Chloe von Einzbern, the separated and materialized alternate personality of Illya, Irisviel demonstrates her familiarity with magecraft. While she is well-versed in the Holy Grail War ritual, she admits to not knowing about the specifics of the Class Cards, noting that their only similarity to the ritual is the Servant classes they represent. Later, during the fight against the mysterious Eighth Card, she confronts Caren Hortensia with a serious tone, demanding an explanation. Her shocked reaction to Caren's news that a new Holy Grail ritual has begun reinforces her dedication to protecting the peaceful life her family has built, as she states that such a ritual should be impossible as long as she is there. She demonstrates her adaptability and compassion by officially adopting Chloe, the being who was initially a threat to her daughter, integrating her fully into the family and resolving the central conflict of 2wei!.

In terms of key relationships, her bond with Illya is the most prominently featured, defined by deep love and understanding. Her relationship with Shirou is warm and teasing, treating him like a son while enjoying his awkward romantic entanglements. She is also the primary authority figure for the Einzbern household staff, often leading them and her family around by the nose with her capricious nature. Her development throughout the series is subtle but significant, as she moves from a background figure who is simply absent to a central driving force who actively resolves the plot's main conflict and expands her family. Her notable abilities, while not extensively showcased, include a talent for alchemy, specifically the creation and forging of matter. She can transform long, flexible silver wires into powerful weapons, such as a large hand strong enough to break the ground and immobilize foes. Her magical abilities are potent enough to punish and subdue powerful beings like Illya and Chloe when necessary. Furthermore, she shares her counterpart's infamous and dangerous driving habits, showing no regard for the condition of her vehicle with equal parts skill and recklessness.
