Description
Inspector Nabeshima, commonly referred to simply as Nabeshima, is a police inspector with the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department and a supporting character in the anime Tokyo ESP. He is introduced as a co-worker and former colleague of Rindou Urushiba, the father of the protagonist Rinka Urushiba. His appearance is distinctive, marked by a large afro hairstyle, eyes that are mostly black, and a standard formal suit worn with a dark tie.

In terms of background, Nabeshima is an experienced law enforcement officer with years of service as an inspector. Along with other members of the police force, he received martial arts training from Master Youdani, a martial arts master who trained much of the Tokyo police department. This training provides him with physical skills that complement his investigative work.

Personality-wise, Nabeshima is thoughtful, calm, and fair-minded. In a setting where the actions of a terrorist group lead many people to condemn all espers indiscriminately, Nabeshima stands apart by judging individuals on their own actions. He recognizes that Rinka Urushiba fights for justice and does not treat her as a threat simply because she possesses supernatural abilities. He approaches his work with a serious and no-nonsense attitude, and he has a sharp, analytical mind shaped by years of police experience. His composed and deliberate demeanor provides a steady contrast to the chaos of the supernatural incidents taking place around him.

Nabeshima's primary motivation is the maintenance of law and order in Tokyo. Even as extraordinary phenomena begin to spread across the city, he remains dedicated to his duties as a police officer, investigating the events while trying to keep the situation under control.

In the story, Nabeshima first becomes involved when he investigates reports of a flying penguin seen near a government building. He initially dismisses the reports as a prank, but he begins to take the matter seriously when he realizes it is connected to a much larger problem. This investigation brings him into contact with Rinka Urushiba, a high school student who has gained the ability to pass through solid objects. Throughout the series, Nabeshima plays a supporting but significant role in helping Rinka and her allies confront various supernatural threats. He provides them with crucial information and leads the police department's investigation into the esper-related incidents while working to maintain public safety. As the story progresses, his role becomes more substantial than it first appears, establishing him as a reliable ally rather than a peripheral authority figure.

Among his key relationships, his connection to Rindou Urushiba is the most significant, as the two are former co-workers in the police department. Through Rindou's daughter Rinka, Nabeshima becomes personally tied to the struggles of the young espers. He also has a notable connection to Master Youdani, under whose instruction he received martial arts training along with the rest of the police force.

In terms of notable abilities, Nabeshima does not rely on supernatural powers. His strengths lie in his investigative expertise, his keen observation and analytical reasoning, and the martial arts skills he acquired from Master Youdani, all of which allow him to function effectively in a world increasingly shaped by superpowered individuals.
