Description
Matsu is a supporting character in the anime Sengoku Basara: End of Judgement, an adaptation of the game Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes. She is the wife of Maeda Toshiie and the adopted mother of Maeda Keiji. Within the Maeda household, Matsu is known for her high intelligence, strong sense of responsibility, and resolute personality. She is deeply committed to the well-being of her family and does not hesitate to assert herself when necessary, even scolding others on the battlefield if they show weakness. In the anime, Matsu’s primary role in the story is as a hostage. She is kidnapped by the mysterious monk Tenkai, an act that is initially blamed on Tokugawa Ieyasu. This abduction compels Keiji to seek an alliance with Magoichi Saika in order to rescue her. The kidnapping also serves as a catalyst that draws various factions into the escalating conflict leading up to the Battle of Sekigahara. Matsu’s relationship with Keiji is that of a caring but firm adoptive parent, and her bond with Toshiie is presented as a strong partnership. Although she does not fight directly in the anime, she is described in source material as a capable martial artist with a talent for handling animals, including the ability to summon hawks to the battlefield. Throughout the series, Matsu’s character does not undergo significant personal development, as her narrative function is largely tied to the hostage plotline. She embodies a composed and dignified presence, often acting as a moral anchor for the Maeda family amidst the chaos of war.
