Description
Freyja is a supporting character who appears in the Calibur side story of Sword Art Online II. Within the narrative of ALfheim Online, she is initially presented as a Non-Player Character (NPC) encountered by Kirito and his friends during the quest for the legendary sword Excalibur. The party finds her imprisoned within a cage of ice in the depths of Thrymheim, the castle of the frost giants. Despite suspicions that she might be a trap, Klein decides to free her, and she subsequently requests to join the group in their fight against the giant king, Thrym.

In her disguised form, Freyja appears as a seemingly helpless woman, a facade that fits her role as a damsel in distress. However, her true personality is revealed to be much stronger and more determined. After being rescued, she reveals a refusal to retreat, driven by a desire to retrieve a lost treasure that belongs to her family. Her motivations are entirely focused on this single goal: recovering the golden hammer, which is the treasure of her family.

Freyja's role in the story is pivotal to the resolution of the Calibur quest. During the final battle against King Thrym, she fights alongside the party, using powerful magical attacks against the giant. Rather than being a simple damsel, she becomes an active participant in the fight. Her key relationship within the party is primarily with Klein, whose compassionate decision to free her allows her to join the group. The other characters, such as Kirito, treat her with cautious suspicion initially, but come to rely on her assistance.

The most significant development for this character occurs at the climax of the battle. Freyja instructs Kirito to find the golden hammer hidden within the treasure hoard in Thrym's chamber. When Kirito retrieves it and throws the heavy weapon to her, she catches it and is immediately transformed in a flash of light. Her disguise is shattered, revealing her true form as Thor, the god of thunder from Norse mythology. This revelation shows that the helpless woman was an elaborate deception to get close to Thrym, who had stolen Thor's legendary hammer, Mjolnir. In her true form as Thor, her personality shifts to one of vengeance and righteous fury as she confronts the giant king for his treachery and theft.

In terms of notable abilities, as Freyja, she demonstrates proficiency with offensive magic, providing crucial support to the fairy party against the giants. Her true power, however, is tied to the hammer Mjolnir. Upon reclaiming it and revealing herself as Thor, she becomes immensely powerful, easily defeating King Thrym where the party of players had struggled. After the battle, her reward to the party is a smaller, usable version of Mjolnir, which she grants to Klein before departing. This act completes her character journey from a captive to a vengeful god and, finally, to a gracious benefactor.
